Church Langley residents angry at Harlow Labour leaflet.

News / Mon 5th Aug 2019 at 11:49am

CHURCH Langley residents have reacted with anger at a Labour Party leaflet on the planned improvements for the area that makes no reference to the efforts of local campaigners.

Over the weekend, Harlow Labour flooded the area with leaflets that have a message from Harlow Council leader, Cllr Mark Ingall.

It details over £133,000 worth of works that the council are set to undertake.

It then goes on to slam the role of the Harlow Conservatives.

However, there is no mention of the work of Church Langley residents, led by Nicola Purse who have tirelessly fought for the works to be instigated.

Ms Purse appeared and spoke at numerous council meetings, developed a social media campaign, instigated a petition as well as meeting (Harlow and Essex) council officers to walk around Church Langley and highlight the work that needs to be done there.

This omission has been picked up by a number of Church Langley residents.

Comments include: “Has anyone seen the leaflet through the letterbox today from the Labour party regarding the money for Church Langley regeneration? They claim that the only reason we have the money now is because the Labour Council agreed to release it.

“What a bloody cheek. For years they refused to admit the money existed; taking the cash and putting it into the general accounts. After fighting tooth and nail to stop us having the money which is rightfully ours they have the cheek to claim the credit.

“It was only thanks to Nicola Purse we even managed to get a sniff of the money. The Labour Party even try and claim credit for releasing the money early, when we know full well that what they have done is cut the people of Church Langley out of the decisions about how the money should be spent”.

Nicola Purse has also expressed her disappointment. She said: “I was so disappointed when I saw the leaflet. They have totally air brushed the residents out of this campaign.

“We have put in so much hard work and we have a lot more to do. Something else they fail to mention. I am so angry.”

Church Langley councillor Simon Carter (Cons) has also taken a dim view of the leaflet.

Cllr Carter said: “Sadly, this is typical of the Harlow Labour group that want to take the credit for other people’s hard work.

They criticise us but we wanted a system where residents could be involved in how the money, set aside to improve Church Langley, is spent.”

YH contacted the leader of Harlow Council, cllr Mark Ingall but he had not replied at the time of publication.

This whole subject is a farce, CL residents want the money to restore the area back to when it was built without any consideration for the roots under pathways and who actually owns the land. HC has picked figures out of the air, land ownership project £15,000 when a land search only cost £3, £2000 to sweep and remark a very small car park. I for one would like to see a committee brought together to oversee the works and account for every penny spent

Not really sure what the fuss is about . This was a Labour leaflet and it would be grossly unfair to use such a leaflet by quoting community groups. Can you imagine the outcry if the community group was quoted. You can’t win. Let’s not lose the critical point that due to true partnership local people in Church Langley will see a difference.

But is it the difference they want, campaigned for and have been totally ignored so far and continue to be ignored. It is not the Council's money, it belongs to Church Langley and the Church Langley residents. Why are you refusing to release any details of the programme or the original contract with the developers which is a public document?

I wouldn’t want a penny spent until we see the original contract for the wording of where and what the money was for. Before we see a too and throw between labour and conservatives, you have both been in control of Harlow council since church Langley was built, so you should both know the answers, unless of course your both have something to hide

until we see the original contract for the wording of where and what the money was for all funds should be put on hold. This is exactly what Cllr Ingall and the Labour Harlow group are made of and prone for doing. They are forever taking the credit for the hard work of other people and opposition Councillors. It's all to gain votes by playing dirty tatics.

For years money has been denigned by Labour, and in fact used for other projects. Surely therefore there is interest to be added to it so even more can be done for CL residents. Typical of Labour to manipulate and tell half truths just because CL doesn't vote Labour! Perhaps the truth is the Tories voted against this because the residents haven't been consulted or given an opinion as to if it's what they want! Really sick of this Political cobblers!

Once again this whole sorry saga is about the failure of Harlow Council (the Labour Party) to engage, consult and communicate with residents. Examples of "we know best" occur so often such as changes to the paddling pools last year, the Local Plan (where it was said that consulting with residents would not have made any difference) and now Church Langley. The Council should now: 1 Provide a summary, delivered to all residents, of the original contract between the Council and the developers about how and when this money could be spent, it is after all their money, paid as part of the house purchase price. 2 Provide a full, detailed list of the proposed works at each location. 3 Give reasons, on a point by point basis why the work requested by residents is not being carried out (there could be very good reasons why but they need to be explained). 4 To set up a group of interested residents which it will acknowledge will have a direct say in how, when and where money will be spent in the future.

The council is being lead by a leadership team who have made a firm commitment to help upgrade aspects to Church Langley. The current proposal are as a direct result of positive engagement with residents and spokespersons from Church Langley. Sometimes you can’t win with certain people ,but you have to be determined to carry out the commitment made. We can and will make a difference for the majority of residents in Church Langley regardless of those who just want to moan and groan. Labour works for the many not the few

durcant, according to others, on here, it shows just how much, you, and your Socialists in the Town Hall are out of touch with everything that's to do with local issues. How, in heavens name do you promote and boast, that what your're doing is in the best interests for Harlow. It's proven time and again that the Lefties don't listen to any-one, only their fellow Socialists, and persistently boast, " we know what's best for you ". Straight out of the Marxist manifesto. Labour really does breed POVERTY.

Well Durcant, I see that yet again you have ignored the valid points put on this site, I take it the Labour Group are not prepared to do any of the 4 points I raised? For the sake of readers, can you tell me 1) How, when and with who the Council engaged with residents/? 2) The dates of public meetings and how many people attended each meeting, 3) If or when letters/leaflets were sent out to each household and 4) Was the Council's website used to publicise this whole matter? Your reply suggests that there are differences of opinion amongst residents about what and how money should be spent. If this were not the case Nicola Purse and others would clearly not be so unhappy. Can you explain in more detail why Labour appear to be listening to some residents but not others? Methinks this is another example of if one Party making suggestions the other simply ignores them or vote it down. The need for an independent local Party could not be more clearer.

Let’s be clear none of you are Church Langley residents so what gives you the authority to act or speak on their behalf. Let’s be clear the council officers have meet and discussed a whole range of concerns some belong to the utility companies and many from ECC. Let’s be clear this was fully debated in front of the general public and was put up on the Your Harlow site. I dare you to watch it and see the reaction that was received when I and other spoke in full support of the Church Langley residents. These were local residents. These were people who spoke privately about how they now feel their voices have been heard. This amount won’t solve all the problems but it’s a great start. We admire and respect the residents group for their tenacity and determination. It’s a shame their own local Tory councillor have done anything especially when they were in power. Lone voices won’t stop this programme and it won’t be used for alternative and negative attitudes. We in Labour care about our community. We in Labour will deliver a difference. We in Labour are working to make real changes. So hold your breath but whilst your doing that and going Blue we’re getting on with what real matters. that is supporting and delivering to the people that matter. Harlow matters. End

Who said anything about representing residents or having authority, we as residents who are commenting on the way the Council have handled this whole matter. Are any of the Labour Councillors Church Langley residents? As for debating this matter in public ... just how many were in the audience? As for yourharlow, I am afraid that virtually everyone I spoke to on the door step at the last elections had never heard of it and indeed it is often impossible to see who is speaking or hear what is being said. Have Harlow Council advised all residents about what is being done (rather than receiving a Labour Party leaflet taking the credit?).Residents of course will form their own view of the fact that you have not answered the many points that have been raised in the posts on this article. End

Snotty comments like that dur, doesn't do much for what's left of your reputation. Trying to get a promotion must account for your complete denial, that all is not well with the Socialists in the Town Hall. Difference of opinion, yes, I can agree with that, but blatant twisting of facts and actions of others is quite remiss,of you.
