THE Harvey Centre in Harlow celebrated a bumper weekend of crime-fighting, baddie-busting fun from 11am – 4pm on Saturday 31st August & Sunday 1st September 2019.
They welcomed almost 400 wannabe superheroes to join them for 2 days of FREE arty, crafty, action-packed, selfie-tastic, superhero-themed fun! This included the chance to meet some special superhero guests, and transform themselves into real life superheroes at the Centre’s superhero training academy.
For one weekend only, a special Superhero HQ was set up on the mall, complete with skyscraper archway, superhero backdrop for photos and the all-essential training academy to put wannabe crime fighters through their paces.
A team of face painters helped to transform the little ones into their superhero of choice, while the Boom-Booth offered the opportunity for them to dress up in a variety of superhero costumes, discover their inner super-powers and pose for photos.
On Saturday, the team helped wannabe heroes create a comic book strip of their own, while Spiderman made appearances to meet and greet fans throughout the day.
On the Sunday, little ones designed their very own mask to hide their true identity from the baddies of Harlow! They also had the chance to meet Iron Man, who stopped by to pose for photos.
The event was a huge success, with lots of great feedback from families who took part:
Andrea (customer) said: ‘’Having this here meant that we had 15 minutes to keep my daughter happy, which meant we could then do 60 minutes more shopping.’’
Lydia (customer) said: ‘’Fab, meeting Iron Man has made my sons day!”
Jordan (customer) said: ‘’This is lovely thing to have in the centre on a Saturday, we’ve made a comic strip and made a story about Spiderman!’’
Alison (customer) said: ‘’We’ve spent an hour here decorating a mask, trying on costumes and meeting Iron Man himself, it’s fab this is all free!’’
Carol (customer) said: ‘’Such a lovely event! My son is in awe of Spiderman.’’
Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre says, “We’re overwhelmed at the popularity of this event. The superhero theme is one that spans the generations, so it was an event that the whole family could enjoy and come away with some fabulous memories.”
