Update

At 8.30am, crews were continuing to stand by while the building is being assessed. The scene was well under control.

A fire investigation will take place later today, once the area is fully cooled.

ESSEX Firefighters were called to multiple reports of a fire within an industrial unit in Harlow this morning.

The location is East Point up on Harlow Business Park near The Pinnacles.

On arrival, crews confirmed that the unit was well alight. The officer in charge requested the support of an aerial ladder platform to allow firefighters to spray water on to the building and assess it from height.

At 6am, the officer in charge advised that the incident had been divided into two sectors to allow firefighters to effectively manage it from two different points.

The fire was out by 6.30am. The build-up of smoke was being allowed to clear from the premises, which are two-storeys and measure approximately 35 metres by 20 metres.

At 7am, firefighters were continuing to monitor the building from outside. Firefighters are using the aerial ladder platform to assess the building and ensure it is structurally safe to enter.

Once the smoke has cleared and if safe to do so, crews will then begin extinguishing any remaining hotspots within the structure.
