POLICE descended on a jungle-themed indoor play centre in Harlow after reports of a large disturbance.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at 1.55pm on Sunday 16 February with reports of a disturbance at Wild and Wacky, Edinburgh Gate, Harlow.

“We attended and a number of people dispersed. The manager of the premises closed for the afternoon.

“One person was assaulted which will be subject of any investigation. Any witnesses should contact police at Harlow on 101”.

Amanda Cotta, Director of Wild ‘n’ Wacky has issued a statement. She said: “Police were called to Wild ‘n’ Wacky shortly before 2pm on Sunday. The incident started with children falling out whilst playing, and then escalated between the parents and friends of the children involved. The police were called and arrived promptly.

“Wild ‘n’ Wacky closed temporarily to help the police and make sure the staff and customers were all ok. We reopened later that afternoon for a party for a little girl and, later on, a private hire for a little boy as we didn’t want to disappoint them or their parents.

No arrests were made at the time and no knives were involved. We will continue to help the police with their enquiries as and when necessary.

We will be reviewing the incident to see exactly what happened and put measures in place for the future to prevent a recurrence, but this is the first time in the 10 years that Wild ‘n’ Wacky has been open that we have ever had customers behaving like this.

This kind of aggression is completely unacceptable anywhere, ever, but we were all shocked and disappointed that it would take place in a venue where children come to play and celebrate their birthdays.

The staff massively stepped up and coped well, and we were really proud and grateful for all the support they gave. We are also very touched by all the messages of support people have put out on social media for Wild ‘n’ Wacky.
