Police impose powers after man stabbed in Morley Grove
Crime / Sat 7th Mar 2020 at 04:24pm
POLICE Officers will be using additional stop-and-search powers in a part of Harlow following an incident where a man was stabbed.
A man in his 20s was found injured in Morley Grove shortly before 2.15pm today (Saturday 7 March).
He has been taken to hospital for treatment but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
In response officers have been authorised to use stop and search powers under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
It’s essentially an extension of the stop and search powers officers already use but differs because it means officers do not need to have reasonable grounds to stop someone.
Due to this we have an obligation to the make the public aware when one is in place, the area it covers, and how long it will be in place for.
The authority will be in place between 2.42pm and 6pm today and covers an area including Little Parndon, Netteswell, the A1019 and stretches from Elizabeth Way in the north to Second Avenue in the south
Inspector Russ Welch said: “Following the assault earlier today we are doing all we can to investigate what happened, protect the community, and prevent any further disturbances.
“Officers will be carrying out extra patrols with enhanced stop-and-search powers to identify and apprehend anyone carrying weapons or intent in causing harm.
“I’d like to thank the local community in advance for their co-operation.”
