THE OWNERS OF Alexandra House, a care home next to Princess Alexandra Hospital, have told YH that they have had “low numbers of positive Covid-19 cases”.

YH asked south Essex-based Runwood Homes a number of questions.

Questions

Can you tell me how many cases of Covid-19 have occurred at Alexandra House?

How many people have died?

How many people have recovered?

Would you say staff are supplied with and adequately protected by PPE?

Are you still accepting new residents?

A spokesperson for Runwood Homes said, “We continue to see relatively low numbers of positive Covid19 cases across our group of services at this time. Symptomatic residents at this service as of today have improved which is very encouraging.

We have put robust processes in place form a very early stage in the pandemic in regards to visiting, staff uniform, training, support and PPE. We rely heavily like the rest of the UK on distribution and logistics and continue to lobby for rapid testing across all care homes.

The roll out of testing across care homes remains slow and ineffective at this point and we urge the UK Government to ensure a considerable drive on this going forward.

The staff team at Alexandra House continue to deliver nursing and residential care at a heroic level of which we are incredibly grateful and we whole-heartedly thank all our super key workers for their untiring support at this time.

“It is vital we continue to support all our frontline workers as we now make headway as a country against this battle. We are very proud of our teams.”
