Consultant chops his locks to raise funds to help feed vulnerable families

A CONSULTANT at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) is preparing to chop his locks to raise funds to help feed vulnerable families.

Dr Anthony Aylwin, consultant radiologist, who is the director of breast screening at the Epping Breast Unit, will forego his recognisable hair style to raise money for The Trussell Trust. The charity works to stop UK hunger and poverty and supports a network of food banks.

The donations have been rising fast, and Anthony’s fundraising total currently stands at £2,635 – more than double his original £1,000 target.

The hair cut will take place on Friday (1 May), carried out at home by Anthony’s children.

Anthony said: “While most of us can cope with empty shelves in the supermarket, some are facing empty shelves at home at this difficult time.

“I decided to raise money for The Trussell Trust, who run the Harlow Food Bank, as I feel there are a lot of people struggling during the lockdown, who aren’t sick, but are hungry.

“I’ve got a lot of hair, and it’s only getting bigger during lockdown, so I figured I could raise some money and a few laughs by shaving it all off.

“It means a great deal to me and my colleagues at PAHT to see the support that we have had from our community during the fight against coronavirus (COVID-19), and this is an extra way that I can help others. I’m grateful to everyone for their donations and kind words.”
