New task group set up for Harlow Town Library
A NEW task group has been set up for Harlow town library, following a recent Government announcement the library will receive funds from its Getting Building Fund.
The Harlow Library Task Group (HLTG), set up by Essex County Council (ECC), will help create a modern learning hub. At the core of this will be Adult Community Learning (ACL), which will relocate from its existing site at Latton Bush.
The task group will undertake consultation with residents, businesses and other stakeholders to hear their views on what they want to see in their library and what would encourage them to use it more. The responses will be fed back to the team at ECC planning and coordinating the refurbishment of the library.
Cllr Susan Barker, ECC Cabinet Member for Customer, Communities, Culture and Corporate, who is responsible for libraries, said: “The relocation of ACL to Harlow town library presents an opportunity to review the entire library and what it provides to the community.
“We know that modern libraries provide much more than books, and Harlow library is going to be a learning hub, but what else should it be providing to the community?”
Cllr Michael Hardware, county councillor for Harlow West and ECC deputy cabinet member for economic development, will chair HLTG. He said: “For our libraries to be at the centre of our community, they must provide the services and facilities the community wants.
“We are going to ask people what makes a good library and what additional services they should provide.”
HLTG has already met twice but will be holding several public virtual meetings over the next two months.
Dates for these will be announced soon.
