Senior Harlow Tory defends “freeze council tax” bid and counters “small town Donald Trump” jibe from Labour

News / Sat 30th Jan 2021 at 02:15pm

A SENIOR Harlow Conservative councillor has responded to criticisms by Labour regarding his budget proposals for the next financial year.

On Thursday night, the budget recommendations were voted through due to a Labour majority.

Shadow portfolio holder for resources, cllr Russell Perrin had proposed an alternative budget. At the heart of it was a freeze on council tax.

Instead, the Labour-run Harlow Council has put forward an increase of 1.99%.

The leader of Harlow Council, cllr Mark Ingall did not hold back in his criticism of cllr Perrin calling him a “small town Donald Trump”.

We spoke to cllr Perrin and gave him a right to reply as well as the chance to defend elements of his alternative budget.

Interesting interview and am left with the impression this was more about Russell for MP rather than Russell the local hero. Watch out both Rob and Joel this is now getting interesting Petition is a good personal profile opportunity. Did you count how many times said I instead of we. Sadly the comments about the enterprise site and the high street funding does show limited awareness or incorrect briefing. More than happy to give him the correct truth. Nice fire in the background but like the interview full of display but actually nothing else Thank you Michael
