Covid-19: Churchgate Street Primary Head writes to all parents after reports one of them may have “blatantly broken guidelines”

A HEADTEACHER at a Harlow primary school has urged parents not to breach Covid rules after reports that a parent attended a baby shower with over thirty people.

In a strongly worded e mail seen by YourHarlow, the headteacher of Churchgate Primary School in Old Harlow, Jonathan Tye, has expressed his dismay after hearing reports of a member of the school community “blatantly breaking guidelines”.

A parent, who did not wish to be named told YH that there were concerns among many parents that another parent had allegedly (recently) attended a baby shower along with over thirty people.

Much respected Mr Tye often sends out e-mails to keep parents and carers informed of the school’s activities especially during the last year but on this occasion there was a clear sense of urgency and concern.

Mr Tye said: “When I hear about stories of big gatherings or celebrations going on that may include members of the school community then I am compelled to respond.

“Last week, we tragically lost a parent in Year 5 to Covid.

“I am now being told of stories where people from our school community are blatantly breaking guidelines and putting others at risk.

“This incredible lack of respect for anyone else, for other children, for the staff and their families, for their bubbles and vulnerable people who are in school; is so far removed from the community ethos that we all have and all expect.

Now is the time for us to be selfless.

If anything tragic happened in school, I would have no words to describe the guilt I would feel.

Mr Tye ended the e-mail saying: “I am not the police and have no authority but what I am is a headteacher who cares for his community deeply and I won’t let them down

YH spoke to Mr Tye and asked him if he had contacted the police. He said he had not.
