Have your say on the £1 million refurbishment of the town library

RESIDENTS can have their say on the £1 million refurbishment of the Harlow town library in two public meetings hosted by Essex County Council next week.

The project is possible following the award of £977,000 from the Government’s Getting Building Fund. It will involve the relocation of Adult Community Learning in to the building, revistalising and enhancing the existing library and some cosmetic improvements to the outside of the building.

“This is a major milestone in the work of Harlow’s four county councillors,” claimed Cllr Michael Hardware, representing Harlow West. “They have worked hard in recent years with local groups and residents to protect and maintain Harlow’s libraries. The successful bid to the Getting Building Fund also provides an opportunity to review and enhance the existing facilities in the library.

“The library is a hub for the community. Its regeneration will provide a learning hub and a better library for residents to use. The project will not only increase footfall in the library but also across the whole town centre.

“It will hopefully also be a catalyst for other projects, a stepping stone for the regeneration of the whole town centre with the up to £75 million investment.”

The meetings will consist of a short presentation detailing the project, timescales and where services will be relocated. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity for those attending to ask questions, comment and make suggestions, which will be managed by the host. The dates and times for the meeting are as follows:

• Tuesday 23rd February 2021 – 6pm to 7pm

• Friday 26th February 2021 – 4pm to 5pm
