STUDENTS learned how to structure, paraphrase and use the right words at the right time during a writing webinar.
Year 9, 10 and 11 students at Mark Hall Academy, in Harlow, picked up useful tips to develop their writing skills.
The webinar was made possible by Make Happen, an organisation which helps young people in Essex to make informed choices about their education and future.
The session introduced students to the use of comedy and jokes, what works and why and how to apply the new knowledge to essays and extended writing exam questions.
Carrie Moore, assistant principal, said: “Danny Ward, who presented the session, engaged the students fully and drew on his life experiences as a producer to share his tips and strategies. The number of students responding in the chat was fantastic.
“We will now build on using the flow, spider and bridge techniques in lessons.
“I can see a bright future as writers, influencers and comedians for many of the students who took part.”
Max, in Year 9, said: “My favourite part was when we discussed the different meanings of three words put together. The words were ‘mammoth’, ‘book’ and ‘sale’. The funniest one I remember was the idea of books selling mammoth books.”
