STEWARDS Academy are currently developing a small outside area of the school into a Remembrance Garden to remember past staff and students.
Their amazing site staff have excavated the area and removed around 30 tonnes of soil. They have created a trench around the outside for upright sleepers to act as a retainment wall for the rest of the soil.
They are looking to plant poppies and wildflowers on the flower beds to complement their Veteran Remembrance Wall and have already created a graphic conveying a tranquil vista along the adjoining wall.
Alec Laing (senior lead practitioner) said: “We thank Harlow District Council for their generous donation for the repurposing of this area of the school and thank our amazing site staff for their hard work so far. It will provide our students with a quiet outside space for them to reflect especially at this difficult time. Memorial gardens can anchor people to memories of special times they spent with someone and I hope this will help our young people come to terms with any difficulties they may have experienced over the past year. Watch this space for our progress on this very special area.”
