ICYMI: Attention! Burnt Mill Academy students take up course in army leadership

LAST week, a number of people on Twitter expressed their concerns at the sight of “weapon training” going on in the grounds of Burnt Mill Academy.
Among those expressing concerns were Mark Hall Labour councillor, Lane Shears and the Essex branch of the National Education Union (NEU).

One parent who attended the Open Evening in 2019 said: “I was impressed with what I saw at the Open Evening.
The cadet course was hardly a secret. There was a big hut with an army sign on it!
I thought this looked very impressive. I think it teaches the young people some basic disciplines, whether it be keeping your uniform tidy (I remember the washing machines) to teamwork and drills that will hold them in good stead for the rest their lives.”
