Stewards Academy fly high in Quadcopter challenge
Education: Secondary / Sat 15th May 2021 at 08:13am
STEWARDS Academy Year 9 pupils are delighted to have been invited to participate in this year’s Quadcopter Challenge, hosted virtually by Raytheon UK.
Six of our keenest Year 9 engineers will be tasked with designing the best quadcopter in a series of competition stages, with the potential to enter the national finals.
As space travel to Mars has become a hot topic recently, the challenge for this year’s competition is the creation of a drone capable of flight on the red planet. Our students will need to think about the unique environment on Mars, such as the different gravitational strength on the planet and atmospheric pressure. Whilst it is still early days, our Year 9s are excited to get going and have already picked a team name – The Dronuts!
We have a lot of ideas and I’m really looking forward to actually building our designs.” – Jessica Bishop, 9EW
Mr. Perrin (Assistant Headteacher) said: “It’s great to see the pupils working together to solve problems of this nature. The number of original ideas they generate never ceases to amaze me. I would like to thank Mr Rew for working with the pupils and Raytheon for providing this excellent project.”
