Police and residents object to The Chequers application for outside bar

News / Mon 12th Jul 2021 at 08:13am

OLD Harlow residents have objected to an application by the management of The Chequers pub to have an outside bar.

Restrictions were made to the licence of the Market Street pub in December 2020 after a large number of anti-social behaviour incidents occurred there.

The pub remains under the same ownership (The EI Group) but appears to have new management.

The application is as follows:

“This application seeks to introduce an additional bar to be located in the rear garden adjacent to the covered terrace area and near to the existing commercial kitchen. The purpose of the application to vary the licence is to permit the sale of alcohol from the outside bar”.

The representation received from Essex Police has been made in relation to the prevention of public nuisance.

The representations received from local residents have been made in relation to the prevention of public nuisance objective and in relation to the crime and disorder objective.

The matter will be discussed at a meeting of the Harlow Council Licensing Committee on Wednesday July 14th at 2.30 pm in the council chambers.
