The Chequers Pub given permission to serve alcohol outside

THE CHEQUERS pub has been given permission to serve alcohol outside.

The decision was made by the Harlow Council Licensing Committee on Wednesday afternoon.

The Old Harlow pub on Market Street was at the centre of a number of complaints regarding anti-social behaviour in 2020.

As a consequence, the committee decided to make restrictions to the licence.

A Harlow Council officer delivered a report. He told the committee that council officers had visited Market Street on 45 occasions between May 15th and July 5th. During that time, “no significant issues” had come to light.

Essex Police had attended on the evening of the England v Germany game (June 29th) but that was people outside The Chequers trying to get in.

Representatives of the owners (EI Group) put their case to the three-person committee. They stressed that the previous management had left some time ago. The new Designated Pub Supervisor (who was present) is Mr Hakan Heyrettin (who some may know as the manager of non-league football club Maidstone United).

The EI Group detailed how the pub was run now. They were part of the Pubwatch Group for the area and had plans to work with the community.
