Grants available to make community buildings Covid-safe

AN extra £1.5m of funding is being made available to assist community buildings, such as village halls, community centres, and faith buildings, with the costs of being Covid-19 safe.

The Covid-19 pandemic has continued to provide challenges to Essex communities. As we emerge from lockdown and restrictions on social contact with friends and family is lifted, new pressures will develop as people begin to mix again and access services or spaces that they were previously unable to.

To support people using community spaces and resuming social activities once more, Essex County Council has launched the Covid-19 Safe Community Buildings Fund in collaboration with the Rural Community Council of Essex (RCCE).

Grants of up to £15,000 are available to support activities that help to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus by ensuring Covid-19 safety in community buildings.

The programme is administered by the RCCE and interested groups can find out more and apply for the fund.

The funds come from Department of Health and Social Care funding provided to ECC to contain and manage the Covid-19 outbreak. The programme will close to applications on 31 December 2021.

Cllr John Spence, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “We have to find ways to live with Covid-19. As Essex opens up we want to help communities overcome any barriers to this. These grants will allow communities to come together in the safest way possible and I urge all who are interested to apply.”
