New mental health organisation has Open Day in Harlow

Health / Sun 3rd Oct 2021 at 10:24am

A NEW mental health organisation held an Open Day in Harlow.

TheraSpace held they day at their base in Pollards Hatch off Kingsmoor Road in Harlow.

According to the Office of National Statistics, published January 2021, registered male deaths by suicide levels in Hertfordshire, West Essex, Mid and South Essex were 520, 10% of these deaths recorded were young men under the age of 25.

Theraspace will be running a series of mentoring events aimed at matching young adults to an older male role model.

The role models can help young adults by building up self-confidence, motivating and developing young people morally, socially and just by being a listening ear if needed.

The role of the Mentor will also serve as a double-edged sword by bringing a sense of purpose to the life of the Mentor and will help to reduce social isolation by being part of the group.

Their open day drop-in session with creative arts workshop offered some details about funding for our new venture: Suicide Prevention Programme for Men.

They are hoping to start this in October and are seeking mentees who are struggling with suicide or suicidal feelings to come along and find a match with our already enthusiastic mentors.

The idea is to have a speed dating style of mentor/mentee with workshops and sessional events running in the background as additional support for all.

Anyone men you know who are struggling, please ask them to contact any of them in confidence and they can get them enrolled on the programme.
