Green Party candidate hears of Old Harlow resident’s concerns
Elections / Mon 18th Apr 2022 at 01:10pm
THE GREEN Party candidate for the ward of OId Harlow has been out and about in the ward and listening to resident’s concerns.
Over the past few days, Yasmin Gregory has been down by Gilden Way.

Ms Gregory told us that among the concerns were:
Lack of pedestrian access for Churchgate Street residents.
Lack of a dedicated cycle lane from Mark Hall roundabout to Mayfield Farm and The Gibberd Garden.
Lack of Signage at Gilden Park.
Safety concerns at Gilden Park.
Safety concerns along Gilden Way.

Consultation process with residents of The Oxleys.
Consultation process with residents of Old Harlow.
Access to Harlow Mill Station from Gilden Park.
New Primary School at Gilden Park.
Ms Gregory said: “I see the job of a local councillor as a problem solver. It should not be about mud-slinging but partnership working.
“I am contacting a number of organisations as to see what can be done about all the concerns referred to above”.
The list of candidates for Old Harlow and all other wards are detailed below.
How refreshing that a prospective candidate is asking the local populace what their needs are rather than dictating. I wish Ms Gregory and the Green Party every success.. And no need to ask her whether she is or has ever been a Freemason!
Well I’m absolute delighted to see a candidate who doesn’t want to take part in mud-slinging. It’s counter-productive, divisive, tribalistic and downright self-serving. It’s what I’ve witnessed in local Harlow politics and a better approach would be refreshing.
What they say, and then what they do are two different things
I have normally voted for Labour, but they and the Tories share the blame for HGGT and the Stort Crossing. The latest paper from Labour in the Harlow Rose is empty of any content. Half of it is talking about the Tory council tax cut and nothing more. I am fed up with both Harlow Labour and Tories. Greens are definitely getting my vote. They are focused on local issues and people rather than the antics in Westminster. We have national elections to decide on that; local elections are important for our daily lives in Harlow.
From what I have seen in the past year, Harlow Labour (after many years in opposition) have not adjusted to the role of an effective opposition. Perhaps they became too complacent. Harlow residents need a viable alternative to the Tories. Labour has a Momentum fixation that was roundly rejected at the last General Election and the Party id very divided. Harlow Labour is still locked into the Jeremy Corbyn time warp. It is not a serious option. Time to give the Greens a chance.
David, proof of the pudding.... would be an idea to give the Greens a chance!
Amongst my friends and neighbours, nobody is even mentioning these elections. I believe that the levels of apathy and indifference are a consequence of how far the main two parties are removed from people’s real concerns. The Greens seem to have a different approach and I think we should encourage them with our votes.
The number of independent Councillors or ones from smaller Parties has increased in recent years, due in the main to people feeling that voting for the two main Parties makes little difference. Here in Harlow, both main Parties support building on the Green Belt around Harlow, the destruction of arable land and commercial greenhouses just at a time when we should reduce food imports, creating a town centre full of high rise flat blocks, trashing the Stort Valley, a house building programme that does not tackle the real housing crisis, infilling between housing estates and more. Only by voting for a candidate who is not in the two main Parties will anything change. For those of you who no longer vote, come out and do so and be part of that change. Nicholas Taylor, Leader of the Harlow Alliance Party.
I all so agree, time for a change 6,000 signatures. Two protest. Against the vandalism of our river stort. 5000, family s waiting for housing. And all there doing is building 99 in fase 1, I asked how many in fase 2 an 3 , of course no replies. So I'll take it its 99 council, up against thousands of unaffordable housing. Not villages, new housing estate s. If they were council and in right place, it may go down a bit better. With no right to buy, for future generations. They paint a pretty picture of what they want for us, not what we want or need. There's been no listening to people's voices, the river stort proved that to us all. Trashing our green belt is not the way forward for any of us. They talk of wellbeing. They talk of environment. They talk of planting new trees, rewilding. They talk of ay great length. Whilst failing missserably to tell people the real damage there doing to environment. Ripping of old trees up in abundance. Destroying habitat s , biodiversity. Building on our wet lands. No this has to stop, or we will be under water before we know it. The river trashing was a step to far for many, and this our council, hearts council, epping council let this all go a head. But hearts and epping pushed it all towards Harlow, funny that. No time for a change. Trashing our river, is unforgivable.
Kim O’Connor, a big turnout for the Green Party will send a clear message to the main parties showing our rejection of the way they have run the town. The Greens, standing in nearly every ward, have a real chance to have an impact. We should support and vote for them.
Novoman how nieve are you ? I'm just sick to death with all the lies that we are fed, from all parties
I suspect many are fed up with the sterile politics of the two main parties and their constant blame games. Both are tarnished with the HGGT project and Stort Crossing. Harlow Labour signed up to this enthusiastically in 2017 and, without any serious public consultation set it in stone in their December 2020 Harlow Development Plan. Meanwhile, the Conservatives were docile, providing no effective opposition. Then we had the planning application earlier this year when the Conservatives supported it and Labour suddenly had a ‘change of heart’ at the 11th hour having showcased it for nearly 5 years and two of their councillors voted against, knowing full well it would have no bearing. Their third member abstained given the implicit hypocrisy of their stance. The bottom line is that both main parties are tainted with this. Neither is trustworthy and the only hope of reversing this is for a strong Green contingent to be elected to the Council. I will not vote for either of these two parties. I will vote for the Greens, who are untainted with this debacle and whose opposition is genuine.
I would also like to remind readers that the Harlow Alliance Party have been around for four years now and have been the only Party to formally object to the building on green spaces in Harlow and on the Green Belt around the town. The Tories raised no objections where it really mattered to either when in opposition, a large percentage of donations to the Tory Party nationally are from house building companies so it is no wonder. What we face in here in Harlow is mirrored in towns like Stevenage, Baldock, Basildon to name but just a few. I can only urge readers to vote Harlow Alliance in the two Wards where we have a candidate, it is time for change ...... vote for a change.
I'll second what Nich Taylor says and can vouch for his parties sincerity in defending Harlow and its associated Green belt. We need more of his kind as Councillors in our town. And I'm assured that he's not a free Mason either!
I'll make it clear, that not one of the lying parties will get my vote.
