Ward by ward: Will it be a four way battle in Sumners and Kingsmoor?
Elections / Mon 2nd May 2022 at 11:21am
IF there was ever a year that Labour might have a chance of winning this ward, then this might be the year.
But looking back on previous elections, we are starting to conclude that we are just imagining things.
Conservative candidate Nick Churchill has been councillor since 1999. He has seen challenges to Tory councillors in this ward come and go: UKIP came close in 2014 and got to within 58 votes.
Last year, the Conservatives won by 640 votes.
It is all set up to be an interesting four way battle.
This is the third time Labour candidate, Aiden O’Dell has stood. You have to admire his loyalty to the ward he lives in. The first five minutes of our interview with Mr O’Dell focusses on the work he has been doing regarding the “merger” of GP surgery Barbara Castle House and Addison House.
Harlow Alliance Party candidate Alan Leverett is standing for the fourth time and it will be interesting to see if he can get over 400 votes.
Then we also have, for the first time in Sumners and Kingsmoor, a Green candidate in Terry Patrick. Again, how many votes can they hoover up?
It makes for a fascinating battle, where protest votes may, just may create an unpredictable result.
YH Prediction: Conservative Hold: But it may be much closer than before. Majority under 50.
Sumners and Kingsmoor
Nick Churchill (Conservative)
Alan Leverett (Harlow Alliance Party)
Aiden O’Dell (Labour)
Terry Patrick (Green)
I'd like to wish you all the luck Alan, and Nicholas Taylor. Great interview. But I'm green, so I want to wish our Terry Patrick all the best to. Let's hope the change is coming for Harlow people. Xxx
Nick Churchill is the best ward Councillor in this town BAR none! Lives in the ward and is truly dedicated to every single resident. This is why he gets on with everyone and is respected by all irrespective of political allegence! Sumners and Kingsmoor, and Harlow as a whole are very lucky to have him. Anyone who doesn't give him their support are just plain wrong. Any new candidate looking for an example to follow - then look no further than Nick Churchill!
Mark, I lived in Sumners for approx. 9 years, and in all that time I did not see him doing much to shout about, by the way you crow I am guessing you are either a close friend of his or a paying tory. Either way tories and labour both lie and expect people to vote for one or the other. In my opinion it's high time people showed both sides what we think of the political yo-yo they have made us
Ah yes, Mr Nicholson. Your experience must be reflective of the entire experience for all, right? I mean, I can’t for a second imagine that wouldn’t be the case, right? Perhaps if you’d actually looked into what he’d achieved, you might find yourself eating those words.
