WITH the new M11 Junction 7A due to be completed in the coming days, local people are being given the chance to view the new infrastructure before it opens to traffic, with a special Fun Run due to take place on June 9th.
Open to all ages and abilities the event will see participants travel from the London Road Roundabout to the new junction and back, a route of approximately 5km.
Cllr Lesley Wagland, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Renewal, Infrastructure and Planning, said: “With the new junction and link road reaching completion, we want to make the most of this unique pre-opening period and give local people an opportunity to see the new infrastructure ahead of it opening. Whether you want to run, jog or walk, the event is a great chance to see the scheme and we hope, raise some money for local charities.”
Supported by Harlow Running & Tri Club and Active Essex, the Fun Run starts at 7pm with participants able to register here. Participants over the age of 16 are being asked to make a £10 donation, which will be split between a local charity supporting children living with cerebral palsy and St Clare Hospice.
During the event, a short road closure will be in place on Gilden Way from the London Road Roundabout (which will remain open to traffic) and the Campions Roundabout from 6pm to 9pm to ensure the safety of participants. During this period diversions will be well signposted and the road will be opened as soon as possible once the event is completed.
Only a "Wag" would propose a fun run for a project that's wasted £100 million on a road that's got nowhere to go except to grid locking and polluting East Harlow, is part of moving PAH out of town, the hggt road that'll devastate the natural nature reserve of the Stort Valley and increase both the risk of flooding and sewage damage in Harlow! Good causes being used to mask a destructive project. Suggest runners just donate directly to the charities, cut out the middle man and run in the genuine 100% charity runs going on.
I'm interested, sounds like fun.
What about cyclists? Will we be invited? If not, why not?
Cyclists don't need to be invited, they do as they darn well please anyway.
Don’t fall for it. Running is not fun. That’s why we invented cars.
There aren't any cycle tracks associated with J7a and Gilden Way! So why should cyclists give tacit support to the project?
Because it's probably the only time we cyclists will get ride on a pothole free road - in Harlow anyway. Come on Essex, invite us!
I invite cyclists to stop riding on the pavement.
Cyclist aint safe on the road with all the Moron Drivers !
