Letter to Editor: No 5G transmitters in Little Brays
Politics / Tue 28th Jun 2022 at 07:15am
Dear Editor,
I’VE lived in my present home for 41 years. Some years ago I applied for planning permission for a bay window to be installed. It was refused on the grounds it was not in keeping with the area!
So how is it that a huge 48ft telecoms tower plus it entourage of four accompying metal carcases, positioned slap bang in the middle of a busy walkway in a built up residential area, even ever be considered?

These monstrosities are ridiculously obscene to look at and to place them in a residential areas is outrageous.
Regardless of what the World Health Organisation states on the safe levels of emissions, these carbuncles chuck out, no one can safely guarantee they are perfectly harmless.
Put them far away from homes, schools and the like. Hide them in woodlands, wasteland or industrial areas if need be where people don’t live, not where people reside with the posible unknown risk of being exposed to the unknown 24/7.
The thinking in this planning application clearly wasn’t for the welfare of the families, young and old within Little Brays.
Regards
Barbara Byham

The same goes for the one proposed at Greygoose Park. They need to be sited in places where there are no homes and are less intrusive, just as there is in this case just a couple of hundred yards away.
All I work in telecommunications radio and fibre for at least 15 years. I'm telling you 5G is a farce in the UK. It was supposed to alleviate congestion but you frequently find yourself with one of two common issues which the providers including OFCOM who don't address backhaul properly fail to disclose. First one being the most common is the internet connection/backhaul they have connected to the antennas are typically woefully inadequate so no matter how fast you could theoretically send something over 5G it bottlenecks at the mast when there's quite a few people locally using it. Second is 5G gets congestion when there's lot of people in the area connected to it similar to 4G but it is able to be more efficient in handling more users but not how they make out it does in the marketing. So if you find yourself not getting any connection on 5G my advice would be on your phone settings under network to step down to 4G and you will find your internet works again. Good luck! And sorry to the OP that your bay window not being approved that's absolutely a joke when you see some of the state of some extensions in Harlow.
Can’t believe they can even consider such a huge mast in the middle of a residential area. Absolutely outrageous
Please, please everyone write to the council, email the council. As of 27/6/22 there are only 4 objections on the council site for the Little Brays mast
I urge you all to object strongly on the grounds it's an environmental eyesore. Plus in little brays they intend to take a tree down for this. I tried to get the one on southern way objected two years ago but failed as councillors all agreed it was ok and one said does it interfere with planes flying to Stansted. What jokers are running our councils. EE wanted to put another along side it luckily planning department objected on our behalf. They should be at least 25mtrs away from residential areas and are not. Plus it will devalue your property as no one was a 25metre tower starring at them. No one knows the health risks. Everyone said cigarettes were safe years ago and we know different. Yes put these monsters away from our populated areas. Councillors why don't you put them outside your house if you say yes to this.
Same goes for the one on Commonside Road. I've seen that there are several more planned further down the road, Morningtons, Paringdon and Staple Tye apparently, all in the middle of residential areas. I fear given the short distance required between masts (some manufacturers have said 300m!) that Harlow will end up with an array of these masts across the entire town, expect one near you imminently. There is already one on Southern way about 300m to 500m away from me so guess that proves 5G coverage is poor without lots of masts close together.
It is quite simple, resident requests something, council refuse. Corporation requests something, council say yes. Reason .................. M.O.N.E.Y !!
All mobile phones work on microwave technology( same as your oven). They use very low amounts of power though and are regarded as harmless. Here is the rub though, tests have never been done to find out if mobile phones are harmfully or not. Personally I think its like this because they would not like the results. As far as the masts are concerned, I think everyone should object as they are not in keeping with the areas they are planning to put them. I don’t think this will make much difference though as they will just take it up to gov level where it will be approved, after all there is a lot of money involved.
Can't see the problem as long as I can get a decent phone signal personally 😂
Dont like masts dont use mobiles.
Only 4 residents have objected yet there are plenty of moaners, something doesn't add up, same with amazon warehouse barely anyone objected but afterwards plenty of moaners, if you don't agree object down the right channels
We have objected to this and I really hope the council listen and stops this going ahead! My children play in this area it will be absolutely awful to have this here! I can see why we need masts but not in the middle of a residential area!
I object to this, being so close to resident s , no one knows the health risks. But I see there's a comment on here about people not complaining enough, well the campaign to stop the trashing of the river, with 6,000signatures, FELL ON DEATH EARS. So all the complaining, all the consultation, doesn't mean any thing any more. Greed and profit will all ways win, theses councils do not want to listen. If this was being done out side there houses it may be a different story. What with all this concrete surrounding us, now we will have to put up with theses eyesores.
I agree with Nicholas Taylor and the others who have commented. Not only are these mastss an eyesore but the facts show there is a huge risk to our health and the environment. There is a legal case underway being led by eminent barrister Michael Mansfield which is challenging the Government’s lack of proper risk assessment as well as their failure to protect public health, particularly children. There is evidence that the emissions (radio frequency radiation) from such masts are a pollutant which cause adverse health effects and it is known that radiation exposure levels within 500m of a mast increase the risk of neurological symptoms, headaches and loss of memory and learning capabilities, especially in children. Since the effects of 5G on all biological life have not been tested, and there have been no safety studies into short or long-term health effects, no-one can say that 5G is safe. Industry has not produced a single study to show that 5G is safe or undertaken any risk assessment for effects on humans, wildlife and the environment for this laser-like beam forming technology. Proven effects include increased cancer risk, cellular stress, increase in harmful free radicals, genetic damages, structural and functional changes of the reproductive system, learning and memory deficits, neurological disorders, and negative impacts on general well-being in humans. Proven effects include cellular damage well beyond the human race, as there is growing evidence of harmful effects to both plants and animals. I urge everyone to object to such applications that have these masts located near homes, schools or places of work where there will be prolonged exposure to the radiation being produced. I also urge Harlow Council to bear in mind their overriding concern must be for the welfare of their residents and the natural world in which we live.

Over 30 objections now but we need more support please. Make Harlow Council listen https://planningonline.harlow.gov.uk/online-applications/simpleSearchResults.do?action=firstPage
Update re objections registered on the Councils webbb site. Amazing responce so far. Were almost at 50 so thank you all for your support. After meeting with our local Councillor yesterday, who was very helpful, she has suggested we get a petition up as well. So starting from this evening we'll start working our way round Little Brays knocking on doors. Please sign even if youve already lodged an objection. The advice also given was to get friends and family to lodge objections too as their view matters. So please tell all to go on the webb site as these objections will count. Thanks all, we're all pulling together on this, we must keep the momentum up. Barbara B 😊
