Harlow is 75: Nagmeh and the fascinating colourful world of Persia

Harlow is 75: A Celebration of Global Harlow / Tue 12th Jul 2022 am31 07:23am

MANY people will recognise Nagmeh Teymourain Yates as the break out star of Emma Willis documentary series in the Maternity Department of Princess Alexandra Hospital.

After we had interviewed Nagmeh about her career as a midwife, during which she delivered over 5,500 babies, we then conducted a second interview about her life before she came to Harlow.

Nagmeh paints a wonderful picture of a land that she knows as Persia but is now Iran. A land that she says, as a follower of the Bahai faith, she cannot return to.

TO mark the town’s 75thanniversary, Harlow Council and Your Harlow have launched a project which records the diverse history, heritage, and culture of the people and groups which are part of modern-day Harlow.

The Harlow at 75 project is made up of audio-visual recordings of conversations with both individuals and groups that explores their lives abroad before resettling in Harlow. The project reflects that we are a local but global new town and explores themes such as the definition of “Home”.

Wonder nagmeh...such a lovely kind woman, who should have retired just as covid appeared but stayed on to help out over covid pandemic. Such a thoughtful woman, and also helped my daughter when she had her 2 children. Nice seeing you around still, especially in the supermarket. Thank you again nagmeh x
