MEMBERS at Start-Hill based disability charity Accuro (Care Services) have been enjoying a range of inclusive, accessible services across Essex as part of the organisation’s Holiday Scheme this summer.
The Holiday Scheme runs throughout the year during the School Holidays and caters for children and young people age 8-19 with a disability across West Essex. The project enables members to take part in a wide range of social and leisure opportunities in a safe, supported environment.
So far this summer, members have enjoyed a range of activities including bowling at ‘Roller Bowl’ in Romford, a trip to Legoland, Accessible Multi-Sports in Saffron Walden, outdoor pursuits at Mersea Outdoors, sensory play sessions, a trip to the beach, ‘Glo Golf’ and gaming the ‘Gamer’s Cage’ in Harlow and many more.
Parents of Accuro members have expressed their gratitude for the project with one commenting that “Accuro make a huge positive difference to how we all experience the holidays”.
Accuro’s Deputy Operations Manager and Coordinator of the Holiday Scheme, Rhiannon Blake said, “We’re so proud of our Holiday Scheme and I really do think it gets better every year! We plan the scheme with our members in mind, taking their own ideas and input into account. We aim to come up with a programme of activities that is as diverse as possible to suit the varying interests and needs of our members. It’s an absolute blast every time and we just love seeing our members trying new things and having fun.”
Accuro is a small charity supporting local children, young people and adults with disabilities in Saffron Walden, Great Dunmow, Harlow and Epping Forest by providing services that are fun, safe and inclusive. These services reduce social isolation and empower members by providing accessible social and leisure opportunities that allow members to develop life skills, gain confidence and self-esteem and make friends.
