OVER THE summer, we were sent two sports stories.
Passmores Academy student, Sam Howard represented Team GB in the Maccabi Games in Israel winning a bronze in the 4 x 100 relay.
Harlow Town Ladies captain Charis Howell also represented Team GB in the Maccabi Games at football.
This sublime free kick from Charis is a great example of her ability
But when we were in conversation with their respective mothers. Toni Howard and Sam Howell, we spoke a lot about their relationship, as British Jews with Israel.
Therefore, as we are running our Harlow is 75 project we asked if we could interview Sam and Toni as well as Charis and Sam.
We discussed the visit to Israel, not only from a sporting perspective but also from a cultural and religious perspective.
We discussed whether they had, before, during and after, looked at their roots.
To mark the town’s 75th anniversary, Harlow Council and Your Harlow launched a project which records the diverse history, heritage, and culture of the people and groups which are part of modern-day Harlow.
The Harlow at 75 project is made up of audio-visual recordings of conversations with both individuals and groups that explores their lives abroad before resettling in Harlow. The project reflects that we are a local but global new town and explores themes such as the definition of “Home”.
