General / Thu 8th Sep 2022 pm30 05:43pm

QUEEN Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch, has died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years reports the BBC.

Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier on Thursday.
The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.

With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

“The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

All the Queen’s children travelled to Balmoral, near Aberdeen, after doctors placed the Queen under medical supervision.

Her grandson, Prince William, is also there, with his brother, Prince Harry, on his way.

I suppose Citizen would prefer a political head of state, like Trump? The reason the country is in such a perilous state is because of actions by the politicians the citizens of the uk chose to elect and the influence and actions world despots and political heads of state. RIP Queen Elizabeth

Foot note: The fact we have a Royal Family is because having ended rule by a royal family and after a period under Cromwell, didn't the uk government actual invited a Royal family to come here and rule as Head of State?

Cromwell intervened when King Charles 1st refused to abolish obsene taxes to starving subjects. He has been vilified in the muskateer films when in fact he was all for the people and it was the king and his muskateers that were the evil force. Again with your second point a goverment scandilously invited Germans to rule over this country hence the sympothy and support the royals had for the nazis which has been well documented! And finally yes I would rather have an ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE head of state rather than someone who is able to keep her sex offender son out of prison (any normal person would have spent the rest of their lives in prison rather than paying the victim off at a cost of 15mil!)

Citizen. We live in a monarchy. By living here we consent to the monarchy. If you don’t like the monarchy, you have 2 choices. The first is to leave the country and go where others share your views. The 2nd choice is to raise an army and force change. The choice is up to you. I for one will be staying, and I will pour myself a small single malt and toast a great lady who’s shadow I am not worthy of standing in. God save the king.

Theman, I live in a free world and also a democracy. This country stood lomg before the royal families conquered it and claimed it as their own. I do not live in their land. You are dillusional if you think she is any better than the millions of hardworking families of this country. Look at the so called working day of a royal family member (nice social outing somewhere) compared to a nurse's 18 hour shift on minimal money and tell me we stand in their shadow. Perhaps it would be better if you took yourself elsewhere and worship some other self proclaimed leader....I hear their are many cults around the world you may enjoy

But you do live in their land. It’s called The united Kingdon.Like I said you have 2 choices. Or as pop said “ stroll on”. Oh that’s 3 choices. I stand corrected. Now where have I left my single malt?

Theman I do not live on their land. Under that understanding Americans live on Indian territory....we live on saxons/normans/multiple invading forces land.......Italians are on Roman land. This is nonsense, the Royal family do not own England, you really need to educate yourself. Perhaps lay off the single malt it seems to be affecting your intelligence! And please read my earlier facts and let me know which ones are incorrect?

Could not find my single malt. But I was pleasantly surprised to see I still had a rather nice cognac in the cellar. Long live the king. And god bless this wonderful nation that welcomes all sorts regardless of their views. Sorry feeling a bit emotional.

Every now and then you come across someone who does not know when to stop digging, or can’t read the room. Never ceases to amaze me.

By the way you cannot refer to the First Nations people of North America that way these day. It is considered deeply offensive. Ps I spent many years living that side of the pond.

Citizen, you're obviously on the wrong planet or at least continent. Try America if Trump gets back into power. Like democracy, a wealthfare state with an apolitical Head of State isn't perfect but it's better than the alternatives.

Personally I am staying up till midnight. It’s an especially important historical day. Also I am grateful to live in a country where all views are allowed whether I agree with them or not, including “ citezen”. Btw the cognac is history, and hallelujah I found my single malt. Sometimes it has to be done! God save the king( some tears for the queen)

Actually if you want to talk politics( I find it a bit dull) but a benign dictatorship is the proven winner. Unfortunately benign dictators are very thin on the ground, so I will take the British way every day of the week with all of its minor imperfections.

Just have respect for a wonderful old lady who has passed away instead of all these pathetic political posts. RIP Queen Elizabeth II.

Craig, I take no pleasure from her passing. It is always a sad event when a decent human being passes away. My problem is with the outdated monarchy system. I did express this earlier, but (not abiding by free speech) the editors of this paper have deleted numerous posts that are not malicuous or criminaly offensive in anyway. It seems the papers in this country like to show views and opinions that align with their own only. Wonder how long this post will stay up
