Freshwaters Primary win girls football tournament
Education: Primary / Sun 9th Oct 2022 at 07:07am
CONGRATULATIONS to the team of Year 5 and 6 Girls from Freshwaters, who edged out Church Langley A in a very close final with virtually the last kick of the game.
A busy morning of Girls football at Mark Hall Academy saw 15 teams booked on for the event, though disappointedly a few schools didn’t turn up which created a few issues for the organisers.
The teams taking part were: Hatfield Heath, Nazeing, Freshwaters, Fawbert and Barnard, Cooks Spinney x 2, Henry Moore, Hare Street , Church Langley x 2, Roydon and Saint Nicholas.
Once the games were underway, the 3 groups of teams played really well and the all-weather pitch was full of excitement and smiles. The girls ran and passed their way through a series of matches which ultimately lead to 4 teams making the semi-finals (Church Langley A, Nazeing, Freshwaters and Cooks Spinney A).
Both semi-finals were decided by a single corner point before the main final saw Church Langley leading until the last few seconds before Freshwaters snatched victory. Cooks Spinney narrowly edged out Nazeing for 3rd place but all the girls were full of smiles at the end.
Thanks to SGO David Stacey, Gill Pardoe and Harry Stacey for refereeing all the matches and to the staff of the schools who continue to support these events which the children love and gain much from.
We wish Freshwaters’ Girls the very best of luck as they represent Harlow in the forthcoming County Finals at Melbourne, Chelmsford in a few weeks’ time.
BEST TEAM football
A busy afternoon of football was had, as nearly 30 teams of Years 5 and 6 pupils attended the Best Team events at Mark Hall Academy and Passmores Academy for the qualifying event. As ever, both events were very popular and the reports from both organisers (David Stacey and Andy Martin) were that a high standard of football was played throughout the events, with teams passing and playing the ball on the surface as opposed to kicking and chasing. Given the windy conditions all the teams and players did really well and should feel proud of their individual and collective achievements.
The top teams from both groups will return to Mark Hall Academy next Friday afternoon to play off for the chance to represent Harlow in the forthcoming Essex County Finals in Melbourne, Chelmsford.
The Group results from Mark Hall were:
Group 1 (red)
Hatfield Heath – 9 points
Church Langley B – 8 points
Freshwaters – 8 points
Churchgate – 8 points
Saint Nicholas – 7 points
Group 2 (blue)
