Letter to Editor: Liz Truss: Thanks for the apology but now call a General Election
Politics / Tue 18th Oct 2022 at 04:37pm
DEAR Editor, I nearly spat out my tea when I heard the Conservative Prime Minister say sorry. I think it might be the first time I have ever heard a Conservative politician apologise for anything!
However, she didn’t apologise for tax cuts to the richest in our society and lowering corporation tax, she just apologised for doing it too quickly. Which means for Liz Truss that her decisions, the decisions which have seen the value of the pound drop through the floor, are still very much on the cards in the future. She is going to slow down the rhythm, but we will still be dancing to the same music.

Truss was elected on promises that the IMF warned against and her new chancellor has now junked in a series of spectacular u-turns, which mean her position is now untenable.
Yesterday Harlow’s Conservative MP described Liz Truss’s ministers as treating the country like lab mice with the economy. He said we can’t carry on like this and in that I agree. However, Halfon needs to stop with the soundbites and start acting tough and call for Truss to step down as Prime Minister, and recognise the only way to regain the trust of the public is to call for a general election.
Sadly, the Conservative Government have been experimenting on the UK public for the past 12 years, 12 years of cuts to our police force, our schools and hospitals and vital services, and this latest farce has left the country at breaking point!
They’ve run out of credibility and a credible prime minister. Are they waiting to give everyone in parliamentary Conservative Party a go at the job? They are gambling with the economy and gambling with people’s lives.
Time for the next episode. Time for a Labour Government.
Cllr Chris Vince
The Independent has started a petition to have an Election now: https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/editorials/election-now-conservative-party-truss-b2205248.html Link to petition: https://www.change.org/p/we-need-a-general-election-now-91a29d31-d70f-4d83-9fd9-5b15c346af05?redirect=false
And the labour candidate would be who exactly? Someone who has to use google maps to find us perhaps.
If the political classes don’t wake up and smell the coffee(and on current form it’s not going to happen), then the next election will have the lowest turn out yet if you discount postal voting which is largely a scam.
Still no word on who the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Labour Party in Harlow is?
And Sir Keir Starmer has been promising the City of London that a Labour government will be good little soldiers and do their bidding.
