Census 2021: Nearly 1 in 5 Harlow residents born outside United Kingdom

Communities / Thu 3rd Nov 2022 at 08:22am

THE NUMBER of Harlow residents born outside the United Kingdom now stands at almost 1 in 5.

In 2011, it was 11.6%. In 2021 it was recorded at 18.3%

As you can see from the (selected) figures below, Harlow now has over 2,000 Romanians and over 1,000 Indians. Whilst the home nation highest in the ranking is Scotland with 595.

Commenting on the new figures, census deputy director Jon Wroth-Smith said: ‘The census paints a picture of how the make-up of the population has changed in the past decade. That decade, of course, saw us leave the EU as well as live with the pandemic.

‘While these events may have had an impact on people’s decisions or ability to migrate or travel at a given time, the census tells us about the change over the whole decade – who was living here in March 2021, compared with March 2011.

‘We can see Romanians have been a big driver in this change, while there have also been increases due to migration from India, Pakistan and Poland, as well as southern European countries such as Italy.

Wonderful story. The increasing diversity of the town is to be celebrated. The exchanges and interactions between the different cultures greatly enriches our lives and communities.

Absolutely shocked by the census. Had no idea how diverse the town has become.

This is so accurate. I come from a family of 5 and one of my brothers was indeed born outside the UK.

The majority of the public is against mass immigration but the left wing media outlets such as this paper wish to hide this fact and gag us.

I don't see much gagging going on here - but keep pretending to be the victim.

Oh look...more comments deleted....me thinks the writer has a vested interest. Perhaps they have family members waiting to come over here and be put up in a 5 star hotel at the tax payers expense!

So what?! We have English people sleeping on the streets while immigrants are put up in hotels at our expense, we have record a&e waiting times now where the hospitals are dealing with a surge in population, we have waiting lists for a council house that can be 10 years+, my children's classroom now has obsene amounts of differents languages which makes communication very hard, theres now 40+ to a classroom, not to mention the crime and dole scrounging from a majority of the asylum seekers.....so what?!! What a ridiculous comment

I’m an English, PAH born child. I’m in a 2 bed social housing with 4 children. I need more space. But I am not complaining as I gave birth and it was my choice. The waiting list is larger than my family yes but I do not recent any other human needing a home that’s in my situation. Come country of birth or colour?.

Adults decide where they want to live, and that's how it should be. Nobody should decide for other people.

Citizen btw 65% of staff in a hospital are from foreign country,so dont complain coz you will end up wit out a&e ,not just waiting too long
