Athletics: Nikki is taking on London Marathon for CHIPS

Charity / Mon 9th Jan 2023 at 12:33pm

A LOCAL woman is taking on the mighty challenge of the London Marathon for a very worthwhile cause.

The marathon reverts to its normal April date this year for the first time since 2019.

Nikki Griffin has always had the 26 mile run on her bucket list and she has found a great cause.

Nikki said: “Running the London Marathon raising for money CHIPS is truly a ‘check off the bucket list’ moment for me! It has always been a dream of mine as a runner to complete the London Marathon, and what a better way to do it other than to fundraise for a fantastic local charity.

CHIPS is a charity offering amazing services such as specialist play schemes for children and young people aged 3 to 19 with additional needs, providing vital support for nearly 300 families across East Herts.

My running coach, turned good friend, introduced me to this charity after explaining how her daughter Ruth MacFarlane, a fiercely independent teenager whose learning difficulties mean she has the abilities of a preschool child, benefits from the fun and engaging activities.

“Ruth herself has also chosen to take part in the fundraising, she will be running 2.62 miles to help raise money for CHIPS!

“I have set £2000 as my fundraising target, any donations big or small will be very much appreciated. If we are successful enough to beat my target, that would be even more amzing!

“Please find link to CHIPS website for all information on this lovely charity”.

We will be catching up with Nikki in the coming weeks to see how training is progressing.
