Community-minded Harlow runners make massive collection for local Foodbank

Athletics / Tue 28th Feb 2023 at 10:43am

THE Harlow running community has made a massive contribution to the local Foodbank after organising a number of collections.

They organised the collections at various sessions held by Harlow Running and Tri Club.

A club spokesperson said: “We held collections between February 20th to 24th at every swim, track session plus Gail’s strength class and social Thursday run.

“We collected 18 bags in total from just club runners. As part of our social Thursday run, we went to Tesco Church Langley to drop off some donations, which Tesco will be giving a 10% monetary donation to Harlow Foodbank too.

The support I’ve seen from Harlow Running and Tri Club members has been amazing and will hopefully help those in need.

On Saturday February 25th, Harlow parkrun generously joined in too, having a collection table for all their runners to donate at. Another 20 bags of donations were collected!

On Tuesday, five members went up to the Harlow Foodbank base just outside Old Harlow to hand over to Harlow Foodbank’s boss Andy Thornton.

Mr Thornton said: “I would like to thank Harlow Running Club and the whole running community for their every welcome collection.

“Every month is a challenge for us but especially February. So thank you again.”

Well done to Harlow runners. But I do have a problem with some people who use food banks. I have seen people arrive to collect there food in their top of the range suv,s and brand new cars. Are they being properly checked. I have tended to pay for a old ladies shopping for them at the till when shopping. It may not be the best way to help people , but it's my way.
