HARLOW MP, Robert Halfon, is taking on the challenge of a sponsored swim to raise vital funds for Harlow Hospital Radio. On Friday 2nd June 2023, Robert will swim 100 lengths of a 20 metre pool in an attempt to help the Hospital Radio to expand its programme and extend their support to more patients in Princess Alexandra Hospital.
With a history going back over 50 years broadcasting to the patients and staff at PAH, Harlow Hospital Radio is, for the first time reaching beyond the hospital – in fact you can listen to them anywhere in the world. This is important as it allows staff at PAH to become more involved with the station, as well as their family and friends, wherever they are. As well as the most varied selection of musical style you’ll hear from one radio station, Harlow Hospital Radio has an increasing library of programmes, including comedy, interviews, folk, classical and of course pop music.
Since being elected as Harlow’s Member of Parliament in 2010, Robert has supported numerous Harlow charities, including a previous sponsored swim in 2018 where he raised almost £2,000 for the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust Charitable Fund.

Commenting on his latest fundraising endeavour, Mr Halfon said, “Harlow Hospital Radio is one of the most incredible organisations and groups of volunteers I have ever come across in Harlow. They provide a wonderful service for Princess Alexandra Hospital and have done so for many years. I want to do all I can to support them and I thought one way could be a healthy way – a sponsored swim. I will be swimming 100 lengths of a 20 metre pool to raise money for Harlow Hospital Radio, and I hope readers will be able to support us!”
Chair of Harlow Hospital Radio, Andy Meadows welcomed the sponsored swim, saying, “2023 has become a really important year for Harlow Hospital Radio. We’re back to broadcasting many more live programmes, and we’ve just started to have an internet feed for our service, which can be listened to via our web site and also the Amazon Alexa service. So when Robert Halfon kindly offered to help us with our fundraising, we were hugely grateful.”
Do it in the Thames just off Southwark Bridge: No chance!
If I were him, I wouldn't do the sponsored swim in any of the many rivers or parts of our coast where the water companies dump sewage into the water, which his Government allow them to do on a frequent basis.
Looking for floating voters perhaps! Seriously, I am quite happy to give you stick but on this occasion I have to say "good luck".
Do it in a polluted waterway - maybe then I will donate. You should have no problem with this as you did get YourHarlow to write a puff-piece about the so-called action you are taking against the government, of which you are a member of, to prevent the discharge of raw sewage.
