Harlow Conservatives thank residents as they retain Council Control

Elections / Sat 6th May 2023 at 08:47am

THE Harlow Conservatives have sincerely thanked Harlow residents for trusting them to continue running Harlow Council.

Commenting on their victories last night, the Harlow Conservatives said: “We are sincerely grateful to every resident who came out and supported us to run Harlow Council for the third year in a row.

“Now is the time to come together and deliver for everyone in our town, every resident, every business, and our whole community.

“And that is what we will do; freeze Harlow Council Tax and deliver on the people’s priorities – rebuilding the town centre and restoring pride in Harlow.”

I don’t think the Tories could have lost control as only one third of the council came up for election this year. …. So if they had won every seat they couldn’t have become the majority party. If I am wrong give me the figures please! Next year ‘24 the whole council comes up for election due to upcoming boundary changes.

Enjoy it while you can. You freeze council tax, and up all the rents. Regeneration is all well and good, but neglecting the rest of the town ,not so good. Environment issues, 😂 voted the destruction of the River stort valley. And chopping down our tress all around the town, for this . The town bus Station only needed maintenance, like most of Harlow. The town does need a make over, but at what cost. But most importantly listen to what people want, by not shutting our voices down.

Pat, as far as I can tell, before the elections, Tories had 20 seats, labour 13. If the tories had lost the 4 seats they held and were contesting, to labour, labour would have won. Instead they actually won an extra an extra seat to increase their majority. Pretty poor result I would suggest for labour.

Straight back into spin and criticism, sadly. Surely the significant issue is the complete lack of voter engagement. It’s clear most people feel that local Politics in Harlow isn’t relevant. The numbers voting are going in the wrong directions. It’s critical that the new leadership have to find new, different and inclusive ways of better engagement. I sincerely hope the next year will be better than the last and we can find better ways of effective engagement . We have to stop the spin and broken promises. Not confident the leadership have this ability but we must all try together.

What a disappointing turnout yet again - only one in four voting. Who is to blame? Just too many in both main parties not interested enough to even respond to our concerns. Will they ever learn?

People of Harlow ( or people in general ) who just can’t be bothered to vote shame on you all it’s quite simple no vote no change that’s it all you need to know, what’s changed in Harlow???? Nothing except more people shipped in to ease other overburdened Councils of there undesirables more building projects secured to house even more that are on their way so sad all this to make Harlow New Town a City, a new bus terminal to be built???? What a waste of money when the bus service in this town is not up to standard now!!!! Don’t even mention the state of the roads🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Has anyone else noted the 2 stories in this edition of YH that add up to 100%? 75% of Harlow residents are overweight and only 25% of Harlow residents can be bothered to go out to vote! Having asked the question I would point out that I am overweight and that I did vote.
