Harlow Council propose setting up community lottery

Charity / Sat 27th May 2023 at 10:56am

HARLOW Council is proposing to set up a community lottery to help raise money for good causes in the town.

A report which proposes setting up a lottery is set to go to the council’s next cabinet meeting.

Councillor Russell Perrin, in one of his last acts as leader of Harlow Council, said: “There are many councils across the country who work with private operators to run a weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in and around the area they serve.

Proposals are being finalised in Harlow where residents would be able to nominate good causes which would benefit from a weekly community lottery.

All good causes supported by the lottery would benefit Harlow and its residents.”

I Wonder when politics became a stupidity contest. Please read the room, it’s part of the job description. Hell they even paid for a report out of our taxes that told them to listen to the electorate before making decisions. Which really tells you all you need to know about the calibre of these people. On a serious note though most of these politicians seem nice descent people, then they get elected and it’s all downhill from there. It has probably got something to do with the constraints they have to operate in.

Not a good idea from our Conservative party. We have a family member who lost their home through similar 'adiction'. Overall who wins? Only those who organise it! Sounds good but poor policy.

What Bob said 😂😂😂😂 So we pay our council tax and still it’s not enough to help the local community? so now we’ve all got to stick a quid a week in a lottery, to pay to fix things in the community, when authority should be doing that not us! Also, nobody has got any money and won’t be able to afford an extra quid to fix a broken community.

Ffs what are they on? Our roads and pavements are a disgrace. I won't be giving them anymore of my hard earned money. The Essex County Council don't give you a service but charge you enough for the privilege, it really grinds my gears.
