HARLOW Running and Tri Club triathlete James Dowsett completed the Ironman Staffordshire 70.3 on a blisteringly hot Sunday morning. The event consists of a 1.9km open water swim, a 90km bike ride and a 21.1km run, for a total of 70.3km. The bike and run courses were both hilly and together with the heat made this a very enduring event. But despite this James still managed to create a new Male Vet 40 Club Record by finishing in 428th place out of 1229 finishers in a fantastic 5hrs 47min 41sec.

Meanwhile, at the Southend Half Marathon, a two lap out and back along the seafront course, Lee Webber finished in 143rd place out of 1510 finishers in a superb 1.37.38. He was followed home by Timothy Wood in 223rd place in 1.45.08, in his debut at the distance, Jermaine Shand 270th in 1.47.26, Tracy Stratford 503rd in 1.58.13, Kelly Spires 748th in 2.06.46, Mathew Spires 749th in 2.07.51, Sandra Webber 863rd in 2.12.33, Tyrone Mustafa 997th in 2.19.28, Natalie Carmen 1030th in 2.19.52, in her debut, and Debbie Mead 1387th in 2.43.21.

The St Albans Half Marathon is a very hilly race and with the heat made this a very arduous event. John Tennant finished in 687th place out of 1693 finishers and 2nd Vet 70 in 2.06.30 and Phil Middleton was 927th in 2.14.41.
