Parndon Mill appeal for trustees and gallery volunteers

Entertainment / Thu 15th Jun 2023 at 09:30am

PARNDON Mill, just off Elizabeth Way, Harlow, has existed as an arts centre for over fifty years, but it is only seven years since it became a charitable trust.  Our mission is to make the arts available to everyone, and we are making steady progress.

However, to fulfil our mission and to thrive, we rely on the good will of Trustees and Volunteers.  Are you ready and willing to join our small but dedicated team?  We’d love to hear from you if you’d be interested in taking up one (or more) of the following roles:

Trustees

We’re seeking new, proactive Trustees, who can dedicate time between our quarterly Board meetings.  We’re looking for people who value the importance of the arts and want to play a major part in helping push Parndon Mill forward.  We’re particularly interested in people with the following skills and knowledge, but don’t be put off from applying if you’re not quite sure how you’d fit in:

  • Property management/letting/maintenance
  • PR/marketing
  • Finance
  • Funding applications

Gallery Curators and Gallery Assistants
Our Gallery Curator, Sally, will be taking well-earned retirement at the end of the summer, so we’re looking for a group of volunteers to take on the very important task of maintaining the Gallery from September.

The role of Gallery Curator – which could be shared between two or more people – involves:

  • creating a vibrant and stimulating programme of exhibitions in order to attract and engage a broad range of creative practitioners and visitors to the Gallery
  • helping visitors discover the artwork by being knowledgeable about the artists and the artwork
  • working closely with Gallery Assistants to ensure the smooth running of the Gallery

The role of Gallery Assistant covers a variety of duties.  Whilst we wouldn’t expect one volunteer to take on the whole role, opportunities are available for those with skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Hospitality – Meeting and greeting visitors, ensuring a warm welcome
  • Basic administration – keeping the Gallery clean and tidy, leaflet printing etc.
  • Communications & Marketing – Maintaining a mailing database, updating social media etc.
  • Sales – Processing Gallery sales and recording details

If you’re interested in any of these roles, we’d really love to hear from you.  Please contact Trustees Jenny Holland or Bev Ingram for more information – [email protected]

If you haven’t been to Parndon Mill before and would like to find out more about our amazing community before committing, do please get in touch with Roger Lee at [email protected] to arrange a visit.
