A TEENAGE boy has died five weeks after the e-scooter he was riding on was involved in a collision in Church Langley.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: ““On Wednesday 19 July we were called to Church Langley Way in Harlow following a collision involving a car and a 16-year-old boy riding an e-scooter.
“The boy was taken to hospital where, sadly, he later died.
“The boy’s family are being supported by specialist officers, and our enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
Flowers and messages of condolences have been left at the scene.
The teenage boy has yet to be named.
The original story is below.
This is so sad this is not the first . Pls becareful Wiv these e scooters .
Escooters are illegal. They are not permitted and parents should not be allowing their children to ride full stop. A tragic circumstance and so sad
Lima I totally agree Wiv you
So theese Escooters are not allowed on public roads or are they? I have no idea of the rules on these.
The boy was on a zebra crossing and has sadly lost his life, and the person who was involved in the incident will also have their life changed forever. No one knows unless you were a witness what happened, so no point speculating and blaming e scooters ect
The police are sorting out the who, why, when, what and how so for now, let's leave that to them. I saw the immediate after effects of this from the boys mum in such grief that she was continually screaming and passing out. The dad was ashen and looked like an empty shell, none of us want to see our kids pass before parents. Then you have his friends who were there and later, when on a day when they all should have been happy to get the gcse's, some of his friends have been sitting around the flowers, contemplating life and what could have been. The driver of the car also now knowing the child involved in the accident has passed on. Let's take a bit more care when using our roads in Church Langley folks. Safe journey young man, R.I.P
If that comment is meant for me? I am just asking about Escooters,i am certainly not blaming anyone, this is truly heartbreaking,so young and so tragic.Omg i can only imagine his families pain and heartache and shock.
CP , what planet do you live on, it has been said millions of times escooters are only allowed on private land, illegal everywhere else, so sad still RIP , trouble is many ride these things with compleate disregard for the legal vechiles on the road, i was in tenerife on holiday yesterday and a teenager was riding one of these things on a dual carriagway, unbeleiveable, not sure what the law is in spain though.
Excuse me about what planet do i live on? A different one to you hopefully with your attitude.I have no reason to know the laws on Escooters, but i suppose u know everything about everything do ya? No you dont.
Only a complete fool would not be aware of the fact that e-scooters are illegal to use anywhere other than privately owned property, when you purchase one you are informed of such.
Some body is getting very rich selling scooters there every where very sad news about the young boy terrible
R.I.p young man , so so sad 😞
E scooter are well known to be illegal. The only ones legal to use are covered by law and the ones you hire they are limited to certain areas you need a drivers licence and they are covered by liability insurance. Ppl buy these often for there own kids and we will see many more of these tragic events until people obey the laws of the road. The illegal ones often have poor/no brakes go up to 60mph, batteries of poor quality and riders that are inexperienced/dangerous. Unfortunately this issue is now to big for the police to deal and will now have to involve multi agency approach including schools, workplaces and businesses banning them. We are one step away from one of them catching fire on a train or crowded public space with even greater capacity for horrific consequences.
Oh and any home insurance, business or school insurance is likely to be null and void of they find that persons knowingly turned a blind eye everyone knows they are illegal and if you don’t know you are either a young child, just landed from mars or thicker than a whale omelette. These things are a pure menace to poor pavement users and the silent majority of law abiding folks.

If you wasn’t there, please keep your mouth shut. The police know who’s at fault, and soon they’ll face the consequences. This incident has affected many people, who were involved and who witnessed it. It is not nice to be reading these horrible comments on such an upsetting occasion. Please let’s respect the fact that a LIFE is now gone, rather than defending and picking sides. Rest in eternal peace Justin, you are missed dearly🤍
This driver failed to stop at a crossing, they knocked the boy to the floor drove over him leaving him trapped under the car whilst trying to drive off and revving the the car. This was by far an accident but dangerous driving
Awful news… an absolute tragedy. Please let’s focus the comments section on sending our condolences to the family of the boy, rather than arguing about whether someone does or doesn’t know the legal specifics around e-scooters. We all have different interests and knowledge bases and if Cp didn’t know these were illegal, it doesn’t make them “thicker than a whale omelette” or “on another planet” - it just means they don’t have extensive knowledge on the subject. This is a horrid story and a time to be kind to each other.
CP you said "If that comment is meant for me? " Not particularly no. On my post I said "The police are sorting out the who, why, when, what and how so for now, let's leave that to them." and there was a good reason for that as some of the posts that followed sadly reveal. Because a Scooter was involved it does not mean it was the cause of the young mans death, some have rather naively jumped to that conclusion, they would be wrong. N & Truth are closer to the actual cause. It's for this reason I thought it best left to the police and people should they wish too, show compasion for a very young boy, his familly and friends. There are no winners in such an event, just distress, sadness and emptyness.
This is a very tragic and very sad incident.lets allow the police to get on and investigate the circumstances.but the truth is this, whether it was an e-scooter, a pedestrian, a dog walker, a parent with a buggy, or even a horse and rider, this incident happened on pedestrian crossing, we as car drivers have to be more aware of our surroundings and be more respectful of vulnerable road users.my thoughts are with the family of the young lad at this very sad time.
So so sad my heart goes out to his family may he R.I.P.
E scooters are legal in Chelmsford Southend and other towns They are illegal in Harlow The councils and law need to make it aware In each town Anyway the e scooter was being let across the crossing at the time it would have been the same outcome if it was a bike
Such tragic news, our thoughts are with thw family. Any type of Scooter, bicycle, pedestrian, young or old it doesn't matter. Truth be told here is the young boy was waiting at the crossing. And a car did stop for him to cross safely. However, another car behind going stupidly fast did not stop and failed to do so. Causing the car that had stopped to be shunted at and over the boy. There is too much emphasis on E-scooters respectfully leave that discussion for another page.
No seamus it had nithing to do with what you said it was a comment from another, all i have done is ask if Escooters are illegal and many of you have said am i from another planet and more pathetic things. Why the hell some of you have started insulting me is unbelievable. A young man has lost his life in a most tragic way and yet people on here are getting a bit over excited. I am an older woman that has no dealings with anyone who has an Escooter,i have never wanted to buy an Escooter i dont have kids with an Escooter,i dont know anything about them,so dont start verbally attacking me,when all i did was ask a question. No i am not stupid,or from another planet or any of the other immature pathetic childish things you have said about me,i take it you lot must know the laws/ rules on absolutely everything? No none of you do,so rather than throw insults at me,shut your large mouths and remember a young lad has died and his family will be beyond heartbroken.R.I.P YOUNG MAN.SO VERY TRAGIC.
A very tragic situation a young boy has been killed, wether he had an e scooter a push bike roller skates of whatever the lad was killed so RIP young man, and please unless you actually saw it happen stop speculating and allow the police to deal with this awful incident.
No car was shunted to hit the boy - one car stopped on one side of the road the car coming from the other direction didn’t stop and hit him …..
Rest in peace my brother .. i will miss you.
