HARLOW MP, Robert Halfon, has thanked local employers, apprenticeship providers, voluntary groups, schools and colleges for attending his 10th Annual Harlow Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair.
Your Harlow was in attendance to speak to Mr Halfon and meet with the almost sixty exhibitors and the thousands of students, school leavers and job seekers who attended the Fair last Friday.
Commenting on the event, Mr Halfon told Your Harlow, “My annual Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair is one of the highlights of my year. Last Friday, at the Latton Bush Centre, was one of my biggest and best yet, with almost 60 employers and thousands of visitors attending.
“My passion is skills and apprenticeships – it was my first ever speech in Parliament and I firmly believe everyone should be able to climb the ladder of opportunity. I was the first ever MP in Parliament to employ apprentices and over the past thirteen years I have had 5 brilliant apprentices from Harlow College work with me in Westminster. I am incredibly proud that we have had over 6,000 apprenticeship-starts in Harlow since 2010 as my dream is to ensure that every young person who wants an apprenticeship can have one. That’s why ensuring that everybody in Harlow has access to excellent educational opportunities, world-class jobs and superb skills training is so important to me.
“From jobs at the local hospital to employment in tech, AI and green skills, to degree apprenticeships in haulage. It was great to see such a wide range of opportunities available to the students and job seekers who attended across nearly every sector. I was delighted to meet with former apprentices who had progressed within their roles at their companies such as Millie, who had completed a degree-apprenticeship with DHL and was now at my Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair encouraging more young people to follow in her footsteps.
“It was inspiring to meet students from Harlow College, BMAT STEM, Mark Hall Academy and Sir Frederick Gibberd College and to hear about what they want to do when they leave school. It was wonderful to confirm that Harlow young people are aspirational and working hard to climb the first rung of the ladder of opportunity.
“I would like to thank everybody who attended my Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair, especially our generous sponsors, without whom it would not have been possible. A massive thank you to ACL Essex, Stansted Airport, Bidfood, Hibbard Photography, Greene King, Adiuvo Engineering, Raytheon UK, New Era Fuels, Japeto, Greater Essex Careers Hub, Harlow Council, Harlow College, Price Bailey, Kleek Apprenticeships and Beauty in Community for their generous support in enabling my 10th Annual Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair to take place! “
Did he take his CV along? Hopefully he will be out of his current position very soon.
My son went along got some good contacts and useful information.
This is a positive achievement from our MP. Mr H looking for a job must have been joked about loads of times. The conservatives had a stand, I am in two minds as to whether that was appropriate as other parties weren't represented. I did learn a lot more about the roadworks at Harlow Mill (see elsewhere in YH), thanks for that guys, hope the young guy you said was waiting for some stuff got a job with you
What they don't tell you is that the majority of employers who went did not have jobs avaliable.
