Peter, I think that people leave what they want on their way out and St Johns Arc is a registered charity, so money helps run the place. Not 100% on that but that's what it used to be. Refreshments are not free tho I don't think. They are very good concerts, popular.

You find concerts of excellent quality at St. John's ARC Old Harlow, every Friday during term time from 1.30 - 2.30 pm. No expense for long travels to other venues, but our Centre is here on our doorstep in Harlow. While the recitals are offered to everybody with free entrance, a Retiring Donation is appreciated. This request is a necessity as after Pandemic times, musicians are badly looked after by governments, the Arts and Music appear at the bottom of the agenda. - Seating in the Hall is not numbered. Refreshments of a basic kind with hot drinks are available before the concert from 12.30 pm onwards. Everybody welcome! See further information on our website.
