Harlow Community Arts Festival: A Message in a Bottle’ by SPIT Theatre

Entertainment / Wed 8th May 2024 at 06:30am

WHEN three friends meet over the love of booze, binge drinking and blackouts quickly spiral into bruised knuckles and breakups. Relationships built on beer gardens and club nights shatter like bottle glass, as some get to grips with grief, others bottle it up, and others grip the bottle far too tight. A MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE is a work-in-progress, spoken-word anthology telling the story of the impact of grief and alcoholism on our closest loved ones through poetry and spoken-word performances.

If you could write a message in a bottle, for anyone, anywhere, alive or dead – who would you send it to and what would you tell them? As a part of the Harlow Community Arts Festival in Theatre 2 at the Harlow Playhouse, 15th May at 8PM. SPIT Theatre is a formidable theatre company that combines gritty storytelling and witty lyricism in new writing grounded in our working class roots.

We combine rhythm, adrenaline, and spitting sick little ditty’s, all wrapped in a shiny middle finger shaped package. More immersive than a concert, more raw than theatre, SPIT lies in the limbo.

The world between underground gigs and Shakespeare’s troupe, with the penchant for poetry to match.

This play contains adult language, and themes of suicide, grief, alcohol and drug addiction. If you or someone you know is struggling with any of these, please seek help through the following: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/guides-to-support-and-services/

The Harlow Playhouse Practitioners Programme presents the Harlow Community Arts Festival. Six emerging theatre companies from the local or surrounding area showcase new-writing, all on the brief of ‘Community’.
