Taxes are a blessing; Christian leaders tell Sunak and Starmer

Elections / Wed 5th Jun 2024 at 11:49am

OVER twenty prominent Christian leaders have signed an open letter to the leaders of the Conservative, Liberal Democrat and Labour parties urging them to ‘seek the welfare of the nation’ through fairer taxation.

The letter states that ‘the tax system as it currently stands is unfair’ often enabling the wealthiest in society to avoid paying the taxes they owe through the use of tax havens, passing on assets through family trusts, or using various exemptions built into the system, whilst the poorest contribute disproportionately to society.

No point telling billionaire Sunak he probably benefits from loopholes. If you earn a pound in the UK you should pay tax on it.

The real issue on tax is to make it simple, as well as fair. Raising the poorest out of income tax altogether by making the personal allowance £20k+, and then a flat rate across the board of say 27%. Watch out economy grow if we do this. Which incidentally - is UKIP Policy! Mark Gough -Leader Harlow UKIP

Mark Gough are you saying everyone including those on the upper levels of tax?

Mark Gough if you are talking all levels of tax those on £50,000 will pay around £615 extra. Whereas those on 125,000 will pay £9,150 less. Can't imagine how much less those on 45% will save in tax. How can you call this a fair system?

James Gamble. If you earn a pound , you will not pay tax on it if you earn under 12570 per year.

Google the wealth of not only The Church of England but also the Catholic church, if the church leaders were really serious about improving welfare then they should redistribute some of that vast fortune
