Athletics: Harlow teenager celebrates remarkable achievement as she completes her 250th parkrun

Sport / Tue 2nd Jul 2024 at 06:37am

THERE were celebrations at Harlow junior parkrun on Sunday when Harriet Penketh completed her 250th junior parkrun.

Harriet, aged just 13 and a student at Leventhorpe School, completed her first event on 21st August 2016 when she was five years old and her 250th eight years later!

She has completed 231 events at Harlow with four other venues making up the other 19 events (Grange Paddocks, Roding Valley, Cheshunt and Gorleston).

As well as that,, Harriet has run 32 adult parkruns as well.

Harriet joins a very elite club with only 37 other children in the country who have completed 250 or more junior parkruns.

Harriet was joined in The Showground Field by 61 other athletes including some special friends who surprised her by attending their very first junior parkrun to help her celebrate.

She’ll be back next week to collect the wristband junior parkrun give out to commemorate the achievement.

As well as running she also volunteers regularly and has done so on 153 occasions.

Harlow junior parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 2k walk or run for children aged between 4 and 14 that takes place in The Showground Field in Harlow Town Park at 9am every Sunday morning.  For more information visit their website at parkrun.org.uk/harlow-juniors
