Harlow Civic Society  – Free guided walk

Saturday 7 September, departing 10.30 from the main square of Bush Fair.

BUSH Fair was the second of the neighbourhood centres to be built and was pedestrianised from the start. It was designed by Harlow Development Corporation architects led by Alex McGowan and John Graham and named after a historic fair. Elisabeth Frink’s Boar was originally located here before being moved to the Water Gardens in 1983.

This is a gentle walk of about 3 miles (5K) starting and finishing in the main square of Bush Fair.

During the course of our walk we will…

  • See a number of Harlow’s famed sculpture collection.
  • Pass through some typical Harlow housing and landscape areas.
  • See the outcome of the BBC DIY, SOS TV programme, the Butterfly Effect.
  • Visit the new development on what was the Three Hills area, now renamed.
  • Visit 2 orchards; one residential, the other horticultural.
  • Look through the fence at a “notorious” school site that is now in its fourth iteration as a place of learning, with no end in sight!
  • Finish our walk with a cuppa in the Bush Fair café.

The walk will start at 10.30 and should take about an hour and a half.

There is council car parking adjacent to the Poplar Kitten PH.

There is no charge for the walk. The walk is all on tarmac footpaths, although some are suspect, they should be passable in comfortable footwear or, on a sturdy mobility unit, (except accessing the new orchard).
