THREE members of Harlow Running and Tri Club recently showcased their talents on the international stage, proudly representing Team GB in two prestigious events in Australia.

On August 23rd, Gail Nicholls and Jon Waight competed in the World Triathlon Aquathlon Championships held in Townsville. Gail, who also serves as the club’s Head Coach, completed the course, which consisted of a 2.5k run, a 1k swim, followed by another 2.5k run, in a time of 47:34. This impressive effort secured her 11th place in the 55-59 age group. Jon also delivered a strong performance, finishing his race in 46:24, which placed him 19th in the 60-64 age group.

Earlier in the month, on August 16th, Vicky Steadman took part in the IYU World Championship Age Group Sprint Duathlon, also in Townsville. Vicky competed fiercely, completing the 4.8k run, 19.4k cycle, and 2.5k run in a time of 1:14:10. She finished 13th out of 33 competitors in the female 50-54 category.
Vicky told us “I feel privileged to have been able to attend this race and enjoyed every minute, from the parade of nations and aboriginal opening ceremony to the actual race which was scorching hot on the runs (at least there was a breeze on the bike!). A wonderful event and gained a medal worn with pride!”

These accomplishments underscore the club’s competitive spirit and international presence, with their athletes excelling on the world stage.
