THE latest meeting on Chelmsford’s all-weather track will be held on Thursday with a six-race afternoon card on offer for punters heading to the track.

The opening contest on the card (2.10) sees 11 runners head to the start as the youngsters take centre stage in the class four novice stakes for two-year-old’s. Bay City Roller, trained by George Scott, looks the one to beat here having landed a gamble in a 13-runner novice race at Sandown 29 days ago and can defy a 7lb hike in the weights here. Rock d’Oro makes appeal here too, a €130,000 buy as a two-year-old who’s dam was a half-sister to smart US Grade 1 winner Traitor.
Seven runners will tackle race two on Chelsmford’s card (2.40) in the three-year-old handicap in class five and the aforementioned Scott could land a quickfire double with Shelbourne, a winner at Catterick in April and a decent third of nine on the Lingfield all-weather last time out. Mereside Madness has won his last two starts on the all-weather so rates the main danger.
A class five maiden stakes over a mile is the third race of the afternoon at 3.10 and 11 runners will take on the trip, with preference heading the way of Skipper for trainer Tom Clover, who is the selection solely on form having posted a decent second of 14 in a Southwell maiden last time out to follow up a fourth at Newmarket back on June 22.
Hardman was a very good second at Redcar 19 days ago and he is backed to go one better in race four on Chelmsford’s card (3.40) in the nine runner three-year-old handicap over the one mile and two furlong distance. Sneaky Blinder was a winner at Salisbury in July and backed that up 15 days ago with a second at the same track so can make his presence felt in Essex.
The penultimate race on Chelmsford’s card sees ten runners head to the start for the one mile and two furlong classified stakes in class six (4.10), where the John Jenkins-trained Sunset In Paris can bounce back to form after flopping at Newmarket last time out, dropping back down in class here where he we was last a winner at Lingfield on July 23.
Finally, the card comes to a close with a five furlong classified stakes for horses aged three and older (4.40) with 12 runners taking to the track and preference in the finale heads to Next Second, a Wolverhampton scorer in July and posted a good third nine days ago at the same track so a chance is taken here at the weights.
