Football: The Grassroots Code: Respect the standard

Football / Thu 29th Aug 2024 at 07:24am

CREATED from conversations with grassroots clubs across the country, England Football and the Essex County FA hope participants will sign up to a new ‘Grassroots Code’ and show they want to improve behaviour across every league.

The Grassroots Code is here to unite the grassroots game by driving positive ‘Standards of Behaviour’ everyone can all get behind. Locally, the County FA also provides #PlayYourPart Matchday Environment resources which also display that good behaviour deserves everyone’s respect. The new Grassroots Code standards are detailed as follows:

Enjoy the Game: We’re here to enjoy ourselves…win, lose or draw.
Give Respect: We always treat others as we’d like to be treated.
Be Inclusive: We embrace our differences…football is a game for everyone.
Work Together: We’re a team, on and off the pitch.
Play Safe: We all have a role in safeguarding children.

Essex County FA Safeguarding Manager, Helen Hever, explained: “A lot of very positive work is undertaken by volunteers to improve the environment of players. It’s vital for the good of the game that everyone accepts their responsibility in making football activity a great, inclusive and respectful environment for all who take part, ensuring the growth of the game.”

You can read more about the Standards of Behaviour at www.essexfa.com. These apply to all players – from age five to senior players – and are available for all leagues and clubs now. You can also interact with @EssexCountyFA on X and search for the ‘EssexFootball’ page on Facebook.

And perhaps remember to take your rubbish home with you after your match. Or you could even put it in the bin that's probably less than 20m away.
