Petition calls for new junction to ease traffic in Church Langley

News / Mon 25th Nov 2024 at 08:43am

A PETITION is calling for a new junction to help ease traffic congestion in Church Langley.

The petition states:

Recently, our community in Church Langley has been experiencing the harsh ramifications of excess traffic and lack of sufficient infrastructure. Unfortunately, due to the singular exit from Church Langley, we have faced an unbearable situation of being trapped whenever there are incidents on the M11. This unfortunate reality was witnessed twice in the week of 24/11/20. These incidents have not only caused inconvenience but have also raised concerns about the safety of our community.

The current scenario allows for situations where residents could potentially be stranded during emergencies, which is unacceptable for any community in modern society. Time is of essence during any incident – be it a medical emergency or a fire. The absence of an additional exit is an oversight that needs immediate rectification.

We, the Church Langley community, urge the local authorities to assess and address our predicament. We vouch for the construction of an additional exit to ensure better traffic flow and prevent situations where the residents could potentially be trapped because of incidents beyond our control. The wellbeing, safety, and peace of mind of our community depend on this crucial infrastructure enhancement. Please sign this petition to support our cause and urgently address this matter.

No way! Another route will simply fill up at block. We residents of Church Langley are totally against creating a rat run. The problem is the whole traffic scheme for the East of the town. J7a throws more and excessive traffic into the East of the town and that clashes with that coming from south j7 and future plans re the Eastern Crossing will divert vast amounts traffic heading for the town centre and from the Gilston Development into this side of town, all to converge on Mark Hall school roundabouts. It'll be gridlock. Church Langley would benefit from an emergency only exit route to be used should the bottom end of Church Langley Way get totally blocked by an accident but meanwhile if less residents used their cars and walked or cycled (particularly to and from the primary schools) then the problem would be very much reduced. There's many residents who use their car to go to the town centre (one person per car) who would find it cheaper and quicker to use the bus.

Large parts of the town are at a virtual standstill for large parts of the day. School run times are the worst, but the amount of traffic on the roads has increased massively. The road systems can't cope. People use their cars rather than walk short distances, the majority of people have got lazy.

I wonder how many of those who have signed the peitition voted for Dan Swords to become their local councillor last May? Cllr Swords is both the leader of Harlow Council and Chairman of the board of the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town, which supports the building of 1500 homes at Latton Farm, which will initially only have one road to the site (Rye Hill Road). When eventually a new road is constructed heading south it will only allow traffic to head north, on to Junction 7. Add to this over 1000 new homes at North Weald and 3000+ around Old Harlow. I am afraid to say that even if a second exit from Church Langley is built things will get much much worse. Apart from the numbers game, the fact is that these new developments around Harlow will have very few jobs on site (despite the claims made by HGGT) so most resident will be commuters. If residents keep voting Conservative or Labour, nothing will change.

I should have said Latton Priory of course in my previous post. I wouldd also add that the 2000 to 3000 homes destined for land to the West of Harlow will see a huge increase in traffic using Southern Way, much of it destined for the hamburger roundabout which just a few years since construction is already back to being a bottleneck.

When there are problems on the M11, it is not just Church Langley that has problems. The design of Church Langley with only one feeder road should never have been allowed, but when the whole area gets blocked how would another junction help? Where would you place the second exit that would not be affected? I dread to think what it will be like when all the houses to the east of Harlow and Latton Priory get built.

Great idea it will ease the traffic flow.

Whoever designed church Langley/ New Hall was an idiot. Building loads of houses and not building any new roads was always going to end up this way. A s**t town it’s become

Just building new roads and junctions simply makes matters worse. The problem is that people don't walk, nor cycle nor use public transport. The reason isn't down to being lazy it's because the whole transport environment is designed to be carcentric. The car dominates. Walking routes are poor, the cycle tracks system is disjointed, isn't direct but a disconnected random maze which throws cyclists on to busy roads. There's no secure bike parking. Councillors should take a look at The Netherlands to see how it should be done. As for Church Langley, another exit would soon clog up

Love seeing people recommending walking or getting the bus. I work all over the south east and pay a lot of money for the convenience of a car. I would need to get up 2 days before I start work if i were to walk or get the bus!

I think the only thing that will work is if a slip road could be built coming out of Church Langley opposite London Road that could take some of the traffic up to the cross roads that can then turn left towards the A414

Harlow Council has not got a great reputation lately for buiding new junctions to ease congestion on land it apparently still does not officially own....
