Football / Fri 28th Feb 2025 at 08:05am

THE return of cup football to the primary school schedule has been a huge success as the competition enters into its final stages.

The Stacey-Pardoe Cup which started in September with 17 schools across the town, is now nearing the semi final stages with the final to take place in Mid May.

Holy Cross have already booked their semi final berth as the competitions top scorers, having netted 11 in an impressive Quarter final victory over Tany’s Dell. They are joined by Freshwaters, coached by Mr Newborough, who took on St Andrews from North Weald, scoring 6 against a St Andrews side who’d previously beaten a very good team from Abbotsweld,

The two remaining quarter finals this week will see Jerounds travel to Hare Street in a repeat of a friendly that took place back in September. Mr Dodd’s Hare Street children will be looking to book a place in the last 4 against a side, coached by Canadian teacher Miss Walley, who were victorious back in the autumn.

The last place will fall to either an impressive Newhall side, who boast year 6’s in their team for the first time having only opened 7 years ago. Mr Woodalls side were impressive back in summer having won the summer tournament, hosted at Harlow Town. However, the Longwood side under Miss Lintonbon-Bakers watchful eye have been really impressive this year having played and competed more than they did last.

The competition, organised by the Harlow school sports partnership will culminate in May, and will take flight for a second season from September. However it is all to play for prior to Easter and the crowning of the first Stacey-Pardoe cup champions 2025.
