Harlow Council approves new Climate Change Strategy

HARLOW Council is adopting a new strategy aimed at tackling climate change and reducing carbon emissions in Harlow.
In 2019 the council declared a climate emergency, setting out several climate change pledges which has been developed into a broader Climate Change Strategy. This strategy was approved at Cabinet on 19 March, following a public consultation that took place last year.

The strategy sets out seven key objectives:
The consultation results showed favour towards actions that improve council homes, increase recycling rates and deliver improved council operations and services. Improving cycle paths and foot paths was also identified as an important action.
Feedback regarding information the public would find useful, focussed largely on available grants/subsidies, ideas for recycling and reducing waste, and community events or initiatives such as repair days and clothes sharing events.
These results will help inform the council on actions to consider in the short term, including how the council engages with residents and businesses in the future, and what information they may find useful.
Councillor Nicky Purse, portfolio holder for Environment and Sustainability, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation. Your feedback has directly shaped our Climate Change Strategy and provided valuable insights for future actions.
“Tackling climate change is not just about reducing emissions—it’s about creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Harlow for future generations. This strategy sets a clear path toward achieving Net Zero, enhancing biodiversity, and making greener choices more accessible for residents and businesses. By improving energy efficiency in council homes, expanding recycling initiatives, and investing in better walking and cycling routes, we are taking practical steps that will have a lasting impact.
“The approval of this strategy is just the beginning. We will continue working with our communities, local businesses, and partners to accelerate change, unlock green opportunities, and make sustainability a core part of Harlow’s future. As part of our mission to renew our neighbourhoods, we are committed to ensuring that every community benefits from cleaner air, better green spaces, and resilient infrastructure that supports sustainable living.”

Just another virtue signlling document. Even if you removed every single human on the planet, leaving just animals, you would still not reach net zero. I'd love to know how the continual destruction of buildings by desperate dan in his digger complies with this climate change strategy. How does building multiple tower blocks involving thousands of tonnes of steel, tens of thousands of tonnes of concrete and thousands of miles of diesel vehicles in the building of such tower blocks, meet the councils climate change strategy? I'd love to know how the proposed Strawberry Star site build will be managed within the latest declaration? What about those developments built right on Harlows border and the environmental damage to Harlow? I'm not against building per say but to then release virtue signalling messages that are not possible in Harlow, just shows just how much our councillors are out of touch with it's residents and how much they genuinely believe their own gobbledegook.
Great Britain is less than 1% of world carbon emissions
Climate change massively understates the environmental situation. Our oceans (and probably us) are polluted by plastics, the fresh air we breath is full of shit, our wildlife population is being decimated, our rivers are full of nitrates Of course, we haven't been wiped out because we have become very efficient at food production and medical science. Climate change may not be man made, it may not be an emergency but sure as hell stuff is going on which is probably going to affect a lot of people. Watch Toxic Town on Netflix about industrial contamination in Corby which caused babies to be born with deformities then tell me I am wrong.
In my mind, I now have a vision of the Strawberry Star site being built with concrete taken to the building site on e scooters to meet the councils own climate change mantra.
Peter Henegan. How many foreign holidays do you have each year
Says the woman, who thinks it's OK to concrete all round our boarders. But don't worry peeps, we will have green wedges. Could some one ask Nicky how many trees will be destroyed in the process. But never mind we will have green wedges And thousands of unaffordable housing estates, oh sorry villages Oh and by the way, you carnt false people to cycle. And not forgetting the eye sore bridge you all want to build over the river stort valley. And who's stupid idea was it, to put walk through s, right on top of roundabout s. So dangerous.
This is just a gas-lighting paper exercise while the council still intends to build an unnecessary road across the Stort Valley.
On the bright side, the planet is now 15% greener than it was 180 years ago which plays a big part in supporting all the extra life we have on the planet as it allows us to produce more food. This is due to the increase in co2 which has been dangerously low for the last 9000 ish years. levels were about 250 ppm and have risen to about 420ppm and plant life dies at about 150ppm which means we die too. Also bacteria have evolved that eat plastic, which means a plastic bottle in the sea should disappear in less than 100 years. Now that Harlow council has a climate strategy, we can all sleep safely at night knowing that the weather will not kill us as I have the utmost faith in our politicians looking after us. Never again will our infrastructure fail or our civil liberties be taken away, and we will never be let down by the state again, because Harlow council has your back. Mean while on planet earth………………..
